Glad to hear it made it to you intact. Hope you like it, the past couple of months have been rather trying, but I'm gradually getting to a better place mentally. Just moments ago the Postman picked up 6 pieces of outgoing MA, which brings my total for the week to 11 sent. Just wish my scanner wasn't misbehaving, as I haven't been able to document any recent items.

wanted to say thanks for your part in the big happening week end--from Jon's fab generic post card discussion to the bigger than life sandpo manifesto. don't even know what i did or who i was before finding you all at iuoma. namaste.
  • Heather Miller

greetings. this is really fascinating. just looked it up. Thanks for the invite. is this a continuation of the theme of the Mail Art concept? where I send art to you? or is it personal art that one publishes on IUOMA?
am loving the differnt directions the art is taking me. learning so much!!

Thank you for the invitation to join Asemic! I've left a message there already.

DVS, I don't know how to send those invite to group thingies, but you should join the Tombstone group-it's a deadly good time
  • DKeys

You can call me Diane if you want, of course  What should I call you? The Tombstone group is a short term committment since the group literally dies in one month's time. I refuse to believe there is not enough of you to go around. Besides, you can quit.
  • DKeys

Well, then you're in luck--let me tell you about the DK Time Management System.  Just say NO and step away from the chaos.

    Hi De Villo!

I decided to send something to you, and guess what ... I have already done the piece, follows in the mail tomorrow :)

Hello Mr. DVS, This is kitty and I was hoping that you received my cards sent so long ago. I wanted to show my friend  and hoped I could find a picture of them on your page here. It would be sad if you did not get them......2 dreams in a green envelope sent at mid February.

I guess I will just have to send you more! I am enjoying your food for thought in the meantime!

  • Kitty Rocket

Oh Swell, no need to notify me I am just glad you got them. They were sent from a little sleepy town with a post office run by someone who did not speak English, yet, there is no reason not to trust the intent of mail art to arrive at it's destination!
  • David Stafford

You're welcome. I, too, have an interest in that postwar Frank O'Hara/Larry Rivers/Joe Brainerd/Joe LaSueur period.I love Brainerd's comic strips. I keep thinking I'll find a way to do something similar but I think too much about it. There's a randomness, a Brion Gysinishness if you will that really doesn't suit my nature. I want those laughs goddamnit and that sort of zen gag writing is probably a bridge too far for me. The closest I got recently was on Laurence Robert's valentine. But Padgett and Brainerd were way beyond this sort of thing. I hope you get something out of it. I think I found Gooch's biography of O'Hara slightly more interesting but I think the definitive history of that period has yet to be written. Really, it's the flip side of the execrable Mad Men.

While I'm thinking of it, keep an eye out for a card I sent before my trip to Florida last week, I figured if anyone would get a kick out of it, it'd be you.

All I know of Ray Johnson I learned by watching the documentary and my reading is that Ray was his own orchestra and he liked it that way. In fact, he made not have had a choice. The Frank O'Hara contingent seems more a fraternity of outsiders, peeking up at the culture through a slightly raised manhattan manhole cover...I have more affinity for them than Ray who I wanted to like but didn't really by the end of the movie. He seemed too much like me, a prankster hiding behind a scrim of obscurantism. This big words make my head hurt this early in the morning....
  • Helder

    Hi De Villo

I would like to know if you already received my piece?

  • David Stafford

n"Like Ray Johnson, another master collagist, Brainard is one of those great nonaligned artists who now seem to fit in everywhere. His love of intimate scale and pop culture ephemera (no one did more with matchbooks); his penchant for captions and punch lines; his forthright joy in being gay; his inability to adhere to a single style or medium (to make "Brainards" as he put it)-- these characteristics link him to a host of contemporary artists, among them Jim Hodges, Robert Mele, Raymond Pettibon, Karen Kilimnik. His own influences include Kurt Schwitters, Arthur Dove, Joseph Cornell and Max Ernst, and also Edouard Vuillard.3"

    I can relate....

  • Austin Wills James

Well I won't reveal the songs that inspired them just yet, but consider them yours.

Sent you a card about a week ago, I'm beginning to think my posting to you are cursed!  It is a piece representing my newest poetry...if it doesn't show up soon, I'll send it again in a proper envelope.

    Thanks ! bruno :-)

I never would have guessed that you made those marks with a stamp!  The marks looked they were made with a pen nib.  It brought back memories of days when all of my writing was done with fountain pens and blue ink.  Those were the days.  The beauty of blue ink.
  • prettylily

Absolutely!  I can see the potential in using rubber stamps.  I have used all kinds of things to make marks with.  I should post a photo of all of the junk I use to stamp and lift paint with.  Are you carving your own yet?  Lets see some more!

  • prettylily

Yes and it's pretty easy, if you are so inclined to do so.  Amo aka Lazy Bunny left me the instructions.  Check her comment, dated 2-27, on my page.  She may have some earlier comments too.  Or write her and I am sure she will tell you how she does it.  I did and she was happy to respond.
  • Imelda Wubben

Thank De Villo For the comment on my collage
  • Imelda Wubben

I'm working on some things right now and wil ad you to my mailinglist. You can send what ever you like. It doesn't have to be a collage
  • Austin Wills James

I just wanted to thank you for posting the 'Mr.Krinkle' card I sent, it's aways a pleasure to read your impressions & thoughts about my work. Often times you point out things that I myself didn't realize I had done.

Thank you DVS for the copy of your Stations of the Cross Master-peace.  So fitting that it has arrived on this glorious Good Friday.  It brought me to tears and I'm honored to have been included.
  • Austin Wills James

Honestly I'm not too familiar with his stuff. Although I'm going to find some later to download & give a listen. Oh, I was gonna ask if you'd like an 'Alien Asemic' card, I've made three in the last day, so if wouldn't mind I'll send at least one your way.

  • DKeys

It seems to me you were just scratching the surface.  It did become epic and I still have no idea how I ended up in it or what it all means. Loved seeing all the artwork together and for some reason the peacock feet part sticks out to me.  Yes, I was horrified at the thought of a world without trashpo-my paradise would turn to hell!
  • DKeys

Well, Ramone called to say Stubs and him took a detour and are at Tequila's Bar which is near here.  They have bet a lot of money on a Mexican Hat Dance Twister game. We decided they could watch it with me but going to goole earth and zooming in between rounds.   I can't believe you will miss the movie.  Are you in a cave?
  • DKeys

They thought it was a sucker bet, but they lost to this guy.  The whole thing was so inappropriate and in such poor taste they were basically shamed out of Tequilas.  Thanks to the DVR, I watched Road Kill.  I gave it 5 minutes, and it's time I can never get back.  I wanted the entire cast to become RK after watching.  Anything you write will be a radical improvement.  It's better you don't remember what happened to you with that alien asemia.  I'd like to see it.  I have sources that can translate.
  • Kyra Matustik

Thank you De Villo, nice to meet you.Tomorrow I will post a postcard for you.
  • DKeys

Do you have a link? I'd love to see it.  Glad you like the I Heart Ramone Wallpaper.  Ramone and Stubbs need their own facebook page I'd click "Like"
  • Lesley Magwood Fraser

Hi DV, I sent you an asemic work at the beginning of March, did you ever receive it? In a big puffy white envelope.
  • DKeys

Excellent art !thanks for the link. And that she organized decorative dumpster day is just amazing. I think it's May 1st. Very inspirational stuff with such a sense of pure amusement
  • DKeys

It's humbling how many incredible artists are involved with mail art. Always something to strive for
  • Jen Staggs

debating on sending you something really naughty.  Just on the off-chance that you aren't easily embarrassed.
  • DKeys

Sheesh DVS, that wasn't a little chauvinist or anything. Bad experience with women?  You really need to add some smiley faces or something. Without facial expression and body language to read, it's quite hard to tell how you are meaning things.  Pampered princess? God I wish:) smiley faaaace
