Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I learned art at art schools in the U.S. mostly in San Francisco such as SFAI, and Academy of Art University and also at the College of Santa Fe. I do painting and photography, and I became interested in conceptual, collage, and recycle art. I found this site from redletterday who was my teacher. I am also interested in writing since I was a child.

In 2009, I participated the International Mail Art Exhibition of West Java, Indonesia. In 2011, 2nd Mail Art Exhibition at the same place. I sent my altar box.

mail art is inspired to do my own art works.

I graduated Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA in 2010.

it will take awhile for me
Spanish is fun to learn :P good for you
  • ainssomeone

    hm. that's interesting :) i see
Oh, I'm learning French in school, and yes. the feminine and masculine can be tricky :P lots of rules...
then again, I hear English is so hard to learn for most people, so good job to you! and everyone else who has learned English ^^ haha

    Hi Tomoe
Thank you for friending me - it's nice to meet you!

    :-D
  • ainssomeone

For me, I do Postcrossing for the international concept, and the IUOMA to share the art (but of course the two mix in both) So the difference is only the way it is organized. Most of my mail really is from direct swaps and pen pals that I have made through Postcrossing
  • Carla Cryptic

    どうもありがとう!
  • ainssomeone

I see what you mean :) Yes, they are different groups I guess... the thing for me is that Postcrossing has more users my age so I could find some friends ^^
I am so glad to have discovered IUOMA because it includes the international and the art! Great! I would love to correspond with you also sometime ☺
  • Gianni Simone

Hello Tomoe, thanks for your friendship. You know what, yesterday and today I was with Jennie-sensei from SF: She's in Tokyo for the Art Book Fair.
  • Gianni Simone

I knew that you knew Jennie because in your page you wrote: "I found this site from redletterdayzine who was my teacher." ;-)
Let me know if and when you are coming to Tokyo!
  • Bifidus Jones

Wow! Those cicadas are crazy. I like your blogs, Tomoe. The Flying Over San Francisco piece is wonderful.
  • Bifidus Jones

You're a terrific artist. Korekaramo ganbatte kudasai.

  • Kim JungYoun

    Hi Tomoe san!
I'm really happy to be part of the family. Your nice collage has really inspired me a lot and made me want to start this too. It's thanks to you and Jennie.
I don't know why, I felt really inspired to make the rubber stamps, I love it. But now I have to write some mail and use them :-))
  • Marie Wintzer

Hahaha, I think exactly the same. When I visit to the stationery floor of Tokyo Hands I feel like buying the whole shop, especially the stamps, some of them are tooo kawai.
I just started collecting ephemera and I really like it. I sometimes remove stickers from the poles and the bridges etc. For the moment they are just accumulating in a folder at home and i still don't know what to do with them, but like you there are some that I would like to keep for myself. I guess mail art is also about learning to be generous . Huum, I still have to learn a lot about that.
Today I want to start using some of my vintage japanese books I bought in Jimbocho the other day. I looooove them, it's a pitty to cut them up with scissors but they were so cheep.
    Have a good Sunday!

Hello Tomoe! Yip - I am a book artist - dont worry, over here the book arts are not well recognized at all either. I teach book binding to many people - people are interested in learning the craft of binding, but as for artists books - well - people wont PAY for them. I will post you something and then you can send me a card back x
  • cheryl penn

I will post on Monday - post back as soon as you are able!! I am off to look at your sites x
  • Kathy De Wit

    Tomoe,
would you love it to join into a little mail-art project with kids. I'm looking for people from around the world and still Japan isn't in my list.
READ EVERYTHING ABOUT IT HERE and let me know if you want!
    Hugs Kathy
  • Kathy De Wit

    Tomoe,
I really wish you could be a part of this very little project. We can wait, but if you participate in this you have to promise me to send the card back, the kids are looking forward to it. A little image/collage of your house/ the place where you are living would make the heart of the child so happy! I'll count you in? I really hope you can spend 30 minutes on the little card, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! :)
  • Kathy De Wit

Tomoe, I wish you soooo much luck with the big work! You will receive a card like THESE ONES...we left a part blank and there you can draw or make YOUR house...so that the house of the child has a neighbour, so that we make the world much smaller, all together so many different cultures close to each other. And the way we live is very typical ...Next week you will receive...take your time...and don't stress...I'm looking forward to your add! Hugs Kathy
  • Kathy De Wit

For sure, Tomoe, it can be modern Japan...just the way how YOU see that...of course with pictures or photos whatever...and about your classes, stroung girl...admire you for your power...and you have to know I'm very fascinated myself about Japan and his culture these days...take care girl and hear you! Morninggreetings from Belgium! :)

    Happy Birthday, Tomoe,
    and greetings from Greece:
    "XRONIA POLLA"!

  • Kathy De Wit

    Dear Tomoe,
on the blank half of the card, next tot the house of the kid, we ask the mail-artists to do/make something about the house/place where they are living. Our meaning is to bring cultures together on the way they live. Our house is like the most typical we have. Hope you will find inspiration...HUGS! Kathy
  • Kathy De Wit

uuuups, and still a Happy Birthday from me and lot of creative dreams to realize! Kathy

Tomoe, thank you for telling us about Shozo Shimamoto. And I got some "heads" from Moreno Menarin in Italy. The IMAGINE PEACE is from Yoko Ono, I am sure. I will send you a copy of the "head" and you can make many photocopies and add art and pass to your other artists friends. Then we should send them to Shozo.
In the mail to you soon!
  • Laurence Roberts

    dear Tomoe,

You are welcome. Yes, it's good to hear about your activities --good luck with earning a living side of things, too.

I love Japanese art, the zen, and gardens and kimones and calligraphy. So inspiring and of course, Hokusai.

all good wishes & good Vibes,

    Laurence
  • jon foster

I'm glad you liked the card and it was my first to Japan.
  • Kris Naylor

Tomoe, you are very welcome. I am also a student and working a full-time job, so I understand what busy is.

    on its way to you....!
  • Kris Naylor

Yes, I live about 70miles from the Grand Canyon. I love all the parks in this area as well. I think the Grand Canyon is my favorite. Flagstaff and Northern Arizona is my idea of paradise. If you are ever in the area again, let me know, and I'll show you some places that aren't popular but are gorgeous.

    Nakamura-san,

thank you very much for the New Year greeting and the wonderful photo of the moss-covered Fudo god. I like it very much. When I lived in Japan I took pictures of moss regularly because we don't have so much of it in Minnesota:

I wish you much happiness and success in the year of the rabbit. Akemashite omedetōgozaimasu!

  • Bifidus Jones

Thank you very much for the New Year card. Watashi wa sore o konomu :-)

I wish you much success with your art career during this Rabbit year!

I hope all is well with you and send my best wishes for you and your family and all of Japan. We are thinking of you. kathleen
