The soup cans would have been subtle if I was a native Pittsburgher. I am a Bostonian, so I wasn't raised with Warhol as a native son, and didn't get jaded.
HI Jon,
First of all, thank you for the mail art I received last week or so. Second, yeah, I would like one of those mixed CD's. I noticed your eclectic tastes are similar to mine. Also, reading your blog was quite fun - great job on that. I know what you mean about your Can remarks. Loved 'em and hated 'em at the same time. I know Holger Czukay (or used to - it's been awhile), but always liked his solo stuff better than Can. I also know what you mean when you mentioned 'Neu' as well. I still get newsletters for them. I like the sixties soul stuff - old hippie stuff, particularly the San Francisco sound and now that I live up in the Northwest, I really am diggin' rockin' blue-grass and roots rocknroll and many other things. Currently, my favorite record is "Car Alarm" by 'The Sea and Cake". Can't get enough of the Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt guitars. Anyway, I ramble on.
Read about your failure to complete the Alexandrian deal. Ah well, I enjoyed your candor and honesty. And I will be sending something in the post to you very soon. So anyway, can I have one of the CD's?
Hey Jon, I really enjoy that whole Chicago scene too (Thrill Jockey) I saw Tortoise in San Francisco about 5 years ago - Fantastic! Yeah, my tastes are all over the place too. I saw someone mentioning Capt. Beefheart on your page. I have a huge Captain Beefheart poster in my bathroom (from the old days). Anyway, looking forward to hearing your disc. Can't wait, Test.
Hi Jon, special THANK YOU for the tape transfer that arrived in the mail along with some other Haptics :-) 'Love the BLUE! ..and the ooone-eye Rembrandt. I titled it "Eye View", itis great! The haptic asemic card on top is from Sloan and the Alpha Man comes from Angie and SnookyDog. Great company!
Thanks for the friendship and that fabulous CD. The power was off yesterday when I received it, so I listened to it today. All of those songs were very cool. My favorite was the Can song, but I liked the Howlin' Wolf and the Muddy Waters ones (I have seen both of them - long ago). Also the "Young Man's Blues" by the awesome force known as the Who (they were so good in those days and even earlier when they were all Mods) - that song has all cylinders firing - the Moon and Entwistle machine being the perfect back drop for that loud sonic blasting Rickenbacker and Daltry. I had forgot how awesome they were. Saw them many times -even the first show I ever saw 1967 - they were all still wearing brocaded 17th century outfits and looked like some bizarre royalty. Guess you had to be there. Anyway, liked it very much. Our tastes seem to be similar in capriciousness. I'll be sending you something similar soon. Thanks again!
'Got a SNOW day here in Greece too! Schools are closed, though i am retired this year, so everyday is a snow-day, how nice it is! Yes, i really like the Rembrandt eye, and all the transfers are great...texture, transparencies and paper!
By the way, Jon, did you send off your "Alexander" in the mail yet? Me just waiting here for the others so I can start to make the "book". Alexandros o Megas (as we call him here) just wants to know!
Hi Jon,
Yeah, I know what you mean about the Who. I haven't liked them for about 35 years (since about 1972). The early mod stuff in the 1960's by them was incredibly powerful - although on the records they were much more subdued. That first show I saw was this: Eric Burden and the Animals, Moody Blues, The Who and the Chocolate Watchband (who was later called the Strawberry Alarm Clock - remember "Incense and Peppermints"?) This was in a Department store in Oakland, CA. I loved the Who from those days. Guess You had to be there. I'll be making something for you to listen to soon. Thanks again for that great CD - Listening to it right now as I write this.
Make something "terrible", jon! Make four or so long pages of your tape transfers...they are "terrible". Then add that they are from Alexander's visit to Dallas. Then go and make ONLY 12 copies(photocopies are fine) and send them to us. We are waitinggggg, and we wait because we know it will be "terrible". (Then don't sign up for Cheryl's new one: 26"...that menas 26 copies of a boekie.AACK). you can do it...before Christmas even! This weekend, go, go,go!
Thank you, thank you, Jon! What a great quality of layers of images..I am indulging, love your art and techniques....(and how about a few pages of same for Alexander?) I blogged this on the Main Page, oh yes!!!
Hey kid- thanks for the great 1960s-era technology collage! I finally posted the image and I really dig your work- I'm making a special Jon Foster wall to display your great pieces!
Thank you, Jon! This great tape tranfer arrived in my mail box after my return from a trip to Athens! It is great! and check out my posts about it all at the Alexandrian group...you are going to be part of my "Alexander" book...and no weeping and throwing-in-the-towel either! We may just include the mail art you have already created...they are magnificent pieces!
Jon, when i get all the boekies from the othes, and see in which order I want to arrange them, then I shall add yours in an appropriate place. i may be able to make a photocopy version to send you! See? YOU will be part of the "Alexander" book! (The most recent tape transfer that you sent me, which i call "Mountains", is amazingly beautiful...texture-wise, layer-wise..our scanned images here give only a tiny glimpse of its beauty. Many thanks, jon.xxx
Hey Jon, thanks so much for the postcard, love how all the little details in it come together :) Expect something in the post from me in the near future too!
YAY! I didn't know if it would make it, it seemed to blend in with everything at the post office. I've often admired your mixed media tape pieces- I just took the step of subtracting the media.
Hey Jon - hello - nice to hear from you in the post :-) no apologies needed - but the card is happily accepted :-) Its great! I might just sneak it in anyway x
Thanks for your PC which arrived today! I am in the process of making some new ones - hope to get one out to you this weekend. Love the stamps! I have lots that i have divided by colors to use - how anal is that? have a great weekend!
What a great packet arrive today, Jon. Many, many thanks! That's a lot of stamps, but I shall admire each and every one...some look old and rare. And the series of stamps from Cyprus are VERY special...dated 1967, before they divided the island. thank you xxx
Hi Jon! I spent 10 days in the UK where my aged mother is very seriously ill, hence the British card from French (adopted) VMH. Ive been sorting through the stamps you kindly sent me. Highlights are: 3 stamp booklets that must be quite old, because the 1st class postage rates were only 4 and 6 cents (how much is it now?); an unfranked British Wilding stamp circa 1965; a US Special Delivery 30 cent stamp; and some interesting Polish ones from the Soviet-era days. Merci beaucoup!
We've talked before about sending out mail, and not receiving much back. I did two unsolicited mailings to some of my IUOMA Friends that i had not previously had contact , in mid-January. I mailed out 15 pieces, and guess how many I have got back so far? Just one! That's very disappointing. Now if I get a 'New Friend' request I always ask if they want to exchange Mail. If they don't, I'm still willing to be Friends, but not waste time, art and postage on them.
What this tends to mean is that I have a 'hard core' of Friends, like you, with whom I exchange pieces with on a regular basis. A 'soft core' of friends for irregular, occasional and unpredicctable exchanges. And, well, 'others' , some of whose work I follow on the site.
That's enough for now as Saturday's doemstic tasks call, alas.
Thanks! Blue (?) arrived today - love it! Is there anything you look for or collect? Is so, let me know, I come across a LOT of stuff and happy to share.
No problem - we handle estate sales so a lot of what the uninformed refer to as "trash" or "junk" is really junque and so tons come across my desk - so to speak. I also do 3D so along with the paper i have tons of that stuff too. buttons, keys, broken metal things etc. see you!
Kim JungYoun
I received your mail today.

Cheers Jon.
Yes, I love it and it made me look at The Moroccans.
(Glad it came quickly as I'm finding stuff to the USA and parts of Europe very slow at the moment. ) But from US does seem quicker !
