Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I like communication, art, paper, painting and concepts. The ideal combination for doing Mail-Art. Worked with rubberstamps as a child and started sending out letters as soon as I could write. Discovered that it was called mail-art in 1980. Have been discovering ever since and in the last years also promoting this free cultural exchange.

    Dear Ruud,

My son finally arrived from the US and brought me the wonderful book of yours! Thank you so much Ruud for sharing your experience and history with Mail Art. Since I am new in this adventure I had many questions, and your book is answering them one by one! Is beautiful!
  • Rod Summers / VEC

Thanks Ruud, the book arrived today already, I have quickly checked it through and it looks great. I will check it more thoroughly when I file it into the archive database.
Many thanks for sending it to the VEC Archive.

    Hello Ruud and thank you!
  • Henning Mittendorf

Dear friend Ruud, yesterday I screwed up my courage and dared to join your wonderful social network IUOMA.
For all of us this is a great adventure, fluxus of feelings and thoughts with uncertain end, but for me a special adventure concerning my difficulties in handling the pc and my problems with my shortsighted eyes...
But I hope my grey cells will become refreshed by the news I will see, feel and think!
    Thank you, dear friend!
    Greetings

    Hi Ruud,
What's up with the POP UP advertising?? Is it only me? If someone happens to mention mailart and money in the same sentence they're immediately attacked as if by a swarm of killer bees yet now every time I come on IUOMA I'm bombarded with ads for web design, jewellry, insurance, cars, etc,. etc. My POP UP blocker catches half of them but I'm constantly closing little windows and I can no longer go to any of the discussions, my computer jams right up. No fun man.
Is .ning behind this or you?
    Frustrated,
    Peter
  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

    Hi Ruud!
I was wondering too about the pop-ups, like Peter, if it was my computer..I have ad adware, popup blocker and Norman
anti virus but can't get rid of them. What's worse is that I cannot open any of my own pictures in my page that I get a notice box from internet explorer aborting the action and the page goes. Do you know if there are more members with this problem too? Before I have my computer checked?
    Thank you!

    Patrizia
  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

    Hi Ruud!
Thank you for your reply. It's all a bit more clear now. For your info, in case it helps and not to keep 'pestering' you with this topic :-)..at the moment I cannot post anything in the Funny Postcard Group I just joined. My 'action' are getting more restricted.
I can see though that this has afected only few of us since the majority seems to be doing fine, posting, etc.
Anyways I'll just wait to see what happens, no problems.
    Take care
    Patrizia

    Hi Ruud
The mailart begin to leave IUOMA and are gradually replaced by spammers and artists who do not mailart. You should do a little housekeeping.
    Best.

CHROMATOPHORE the art show will be opening August 27th @ Studio 620. www.studio620.org has put up some great information about the show and designed their own invite! Please check it out. Opening is 6:30-9 and will include over 300 pieces of mail art from 20 different countries. There will be interactive mail art tables featuring mail art calls, add and pass. There will be a raffle of donations from local businesses and artists including Hugo Porcaro, TestTower, Ginny Lloyd and more! There will be food, drinks and live music from local favorite--Rebecca Zapen. Check her out at www.zapen.com . And last but not least a showing of artifacts from the first open air post office in St. Petersburg, FL. So as you can see from the line up--it's going to be a great night! Admission is free and none of the art is for sale.

So what do you think? I'm currently compliling a program and after the show I hope to make a zine of the event. Will probably sell it on etsy to defray the cost. Join me for a night of mail art fun!!!!

Been doing a lot more music than visual art the past few months - here's one of the results:
    Here in America
It's my first political song there and it's also my first no 1 'hit' on the site.

    KALIMERA greetings from Greece, Ruud.
You must be busy and not too easy for you to read all your messages, but I need to ask you:
is there a way to send a message/announcement to each member (all 635+) without having to message individually hitting each "add message"? The mail art call for Greece is on "Events" and at MA, and at a Discussion site, and on "my page", but most need to have a personal invite on their page, I think. Anyway, the days are counting down and I just want to spread the word to all.
    Many thanks,
    Katerina
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Thank you, Ruud,
The mail art call is on many places here at IUOMA, so if there are those who wish to send, they probably have seen the announcements. I considered sending to each individual, but that would be hard. SKETBE was asking if we had a chance of getting art from every country in the world! Well, there is no guarantee for that, but we shall have to wait and see. Surely here at IUOMA there is an excellent representation of artists from every corner of the world, hoping that many will participate.
    Many thanks,
    Katerina

    My turn, Ruud: HELP!
Now I have on the top of my page that
"What are you doing here?" , just like Wilma had,
and I cannot get rid of it! It says "update" and put a link,
which I do NOT have, no blogspot, nada :(
Please erase it from the top of my page .
Perhaps it is coming from ning? Dunno.
    thank you,
    Katerina

  • Chepín

Ruud, traveling around IUOMA i stopped here because i was curious about your work. i then read about your brother...I was touched by all the beautiful flower mail art and by your loss. I lost my brother many years ago, tragically he drowned at age 9 and it still hits me like a train wreck every now and then. i am sorry for your loss. you did a great thing for him in his last days. be well and i am glad you are inspiring me, and so many others!, to tap into their own unique creativeness and send it via air all over the world (andalsotothemoon). gracias, chepín.

    Ruud,
I'm pleased that Fluxus 1 arrived to you in working order. You should know that there are others in the world: The other racers in the Fluxus fleet: Angela Behrendt has Fluxus 2, and Samuel Montalvetti has Fluxus 3. I have Fluxus 4 resting on my layout table.

I will have another mailing at the end of the month. Much time over the last three months I have spent learning new software: Adobe Photoshop Elements and Corel Draw X4 Graphic Design program. More soon via postal letter. Regards to Litsa.

Many thanks, Ruud, for all the goodies that came in the mail today. That was very FAST! I see you have two "my page"s, so I am posting at both. My rubber stamps are ready for tomorrow's mail to you...and now I shall start to work on rubber stamp designs in ENGLISH :-)
by the way....My name ends in a funny "sou"=NIKOLTSOU,
    though I accept "Nikoltson"
(makes me sound Dutch or Scandinavian?)
    I don't mind really.
