    WEDDING CEREMONY, CASABLANCA, MOROCCO

I can't work out who is marrying whom, or even how many marriages are taking place, but, and after periods of long reflection, I have come to the conclusion that all the brides are dressed in white, all the bridegrooms are also dressed in white, and the people dressed in other colours provide the cabaret.

BATTLE AXES.....CONTINUING RAPHAEL'S MILITARY THEME....AND, AS THIS IS A GREEK POSTCARD, WE CAN EAGERLY AWAIT KATERINA'S COMMENTS

The Postcard was not sent, but the reverse side is date stamped 01. 6. 92 at 12.01 -- presumably when it was bought.

(What were you doing at that precise moment?!)

    Over to you Katerina....

ANY GUESSES AS TO WHAT THIS INCREDIBLY EXCITING POSTCARD IS ALL ABOUT??

The postcard comes from Corsica and was sent to 'Papy' Norbert in Loupia, France, by Cécile and Ludovic on 23 August 2001. That much is clear. But the photo on the Postcard is not: it's watery, but what are those things in the water -- stones, crabs...? And why would anyone think this is a suitable subject for a Postcard?

  • Raphael Nadolny

Postcard from Israel, Tel Aviv, Dizengoff Square, oabokt half of 1960s.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

SADLY, I CANNOT FOLLOW RAPHAEL'S EXAMPLE AND SHOW YOU THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS POSTCARD OF A YOUNG LADY TRYING TO PUSH OVER THE 900 TONNE ROCHER TREMBLANT (trans 'trembling rock') IN FRANCE

Do tell, Val? Why can' you show us the reverse side of this card?

Well, the young lady pushed and pushed, and the rock trembled and trembled so much that all 900 tons of it fell over and squashed her. The resulting mess (there is no other word for it, alas) is on the reverse side of the Postcard, but as some of the members of this Group are sensitive souls the shock of seeing it might cause them severe mental distres, and even cause them to leave the Group.

To compensate, here's another Giant French Rock*, this one from Le Dé in Tregastel that is so big that no-one has even attempted to tremble it over.

(* Are there any Giant French Rock and Rollers, Val?

None that I have come across, accept maybe, just maybe, Johnny Halliday in his early years. As for the rest, the musical world never really trembled rock-wise or roll-wise.)

  • Raphael Nadolny

Warsaw, the central point of the City, the intersection of Jerozolimskie Avenue and Marszałkowska Avenue. Postcard send about 1989 year.

  • Raphael Nadolny

It was the sixth and the first newly built church in the working-class district of Krakow - Nowa Huta. It was established on the initiative of Fr. Józef Gorzelany in the years 1967–1977 according to the design of the architect mgr. Eng. Wojciech Pietrzyk. The roof of the building resembles the church not only to the ark, but also to the Ronchamp chapel, designed by Le Corbusier.  The history of the church's foundation is related to the defense of the cross by the inhabitants of Nowa Huta in 1960, in the place where the church was originally to be erected. The communist authorities allowed the construction of the temple, but in a different place. On May 18, 1969, the Archbishop of Krakow, Card. Karol Wojtyła, laid the cornerstone from the Basilica of St. Peter at the Vatican and blessed by Pope Paul VI. (information by Wikipedia).

But it is surprising to me that, in opposition to the communist authorities and the socialist realism that they promoted in public architecture, the Polish Catholic Church focused on architectural solutions related to atheistic modernism. The language of modernist architecture has become a weapon of the Catholic Church in the fight against the communist power in Poland. Strange???

Postcard send to me about 1985 year.

  • Raphael Nadolny

In the communist era, there were also postcards dedicated for children
    in Poland.

What I was trying to draw on the other side

    was probably the beginning
    of the mail art.

But these two copies were never sent by post

because I was trying to address them to myself.

    Postcards form 1977 year.

New city hall, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Postcad from the mid 1960 s.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Raphael I wondered if this was the same building?

It's not! It's the Beijing International Hotel in the People's Republic of China (address no 9 Jianguo ennet Dajie, Beijing, China. tel: +? 5126686: telex + 211121 BIH CN) Maybe the architect was the same.

  • Raphael Nadolny

    Val,

I think a replica was simply built in China and the architect was not the same, because logically why build similar buildings twice. The postcard is from the 1960s, so the building in China is certainly later, and could have been inspired by the one in Canada.

  • Mim Golub Scalin

Digging deeper into my collection - I found a card that I hadn't sent off to Val via post. It's the Memorial Unit, Grace-New Haven Community Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. I find this satisfyingly boring.
