We had that one summer they parked all of their farm equipment on the mall and tore up all the grass. Gas prices or something.
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    It's Greek democracy ;-)
  • Judy Skolnick

Yes, we all have you to thank you for that. Take your bows, hear, hear!

What the local college students do with the snow in February.
  • tom

Our house a couple of winter's ago. Of course we don't usually get it all at once. Though a couple of Aprils ago we got over 50 inches in two days.
  • Judy Skolnick

I will e-mail you mine and you can have fun with it.
  • tom

Judy, I've been watching these storms and thinking, "Hey, that's suppose to be our snow." And I know the havoc it causes you is far greater than had it been here. Hopefully you won't get any more of these this year. We've been cold, but not snowy for several weeks now. So what we have is still here, but, settled down. Be safe.
  • Judy Skolnick

El Nino from the Pacific off California. The storms make banging noises here too.
  • tom

Hope you keep your power. A friend in the Baltimore area is enjoying what looks like a 6 day weekend. She went to college up here so is use to the weather and has been prepared. I know when we lived in the Detroit area 6 inches of snow would paralyze the metro area.
  • Judy Skolnick

Hi Tom, this is defititely what they call global warmings with change of air massas and moisture. Ours came off the Atlantic from the south and collided over us with your arctic air. We get this usually in summer. We are and have been a mess since the first 17-28" in Dec. The Fed. Gov't has been closed all week and at least I got to work because the trains are running underground. Nothing above ground but plows and they were called off yesterday because of high wind. Kids will have to make upschool days in the summer.
  • Judy Skolnick

Hi again Tom, We do have extensive tree damage due to large older trees and the collapse on power lines and wind has caused extensive power outtages and I am grateful I escaped that.
  • tom

Judy, I know - our weather has been erratic up here - several summers we had long droughts with the resultant forest and bog fires. My neighbor who usually complains about winter is worried because we haven't had our usual snow and expects us to get nailed in March. Which could happen because Lake Superior hasn't frozen over and it is our snow machine when the weather is normal. Loss of power is a major concern in cities - and here too. Blower on the furnace wouldn't work. I've been thinking about getting a wood burning stove for backup if our power would go. Wood is not a problem here. I hope this is your last storm.
  • Judy Skolnick

Hi Tom, more snow coming Monday but then the temps are going up so we will see what happens, if it gets too warm to fast we will have a lot of flooding as our storm drains are all full of snow. We need long cold to protect against certain invasive beetles that are destroying the forests, I hope that happens.
  • Rod Summers / VEC

Oh what a lovely world we are living in, snow... serious snow by Judy, economic problems with Kate's country and invasive bankers beetles threatening the whole world... let's see if we can come up with a solution... Australia is short of water, Judy stuff all that excess snow in a container send it to Melborne, in exchange the Aussies should send their excess rabbits to feed the Greeks, the Greeks should send their... ah a week point in my deliberations... Kate does Greece have a surfeit of beetle loving lizards?... No, I'm no good at this, I think I'll go back to making art and searching the net for eye witness accounts of Viking diplomacy.

    Outdoor seatingat the cafe

is closed today but a beautiful day to walk
  • Rod Summers / VEC

I went to an Italian restaurant last night with my niece Maud(e) the city looked like this:

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Hmmm, Rod, strange things happening in Greece, indeed...
    strange "lizards" we have here...
    eating even stranger beetles...
must be due to global warming in tall Greek Blue Grass?

  • Judy Skolnick

Well we are melting like crazy and there are huge puddles of black water all over the place because the drains are clogged with snow, it is a good thing we are cold or else we would have giant mosquitos to eat your croc and nest in your Greek blue grass.
  • tom

Those are might strange lizards that eat those beetles, Katerina.
Judy - hopefully the melting heavy snow doesn't cause the roof to leak - I heard some buildings roofs have caved in. I'd like to see one of those giant mosquitoes - they'd probably carry the croc away and the beetle too.
  • Judy Skolnick

I am on the top floor (11) so far no leaks etc. I am hoping all will remain ok. The mosquitos would pick the croc up by his tail and stab the beetles for shish-ka bob.
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Melting snow...blue swamp...
No mosquito mercy for ye who ate red beetle!

  • Judy Skolnick

Fantastic!! I love it but you need a few little beetles attached to his snout maybe Rod or Tom.
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    too late..
the croc done gulped 'em all up!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Noz vezh vat TiAr.
I agree with you, snow photos are beautiful...
    Brei eo an amzer?
  • Judy Skolnick

  • Judy Skolnick

Did you know that in Vancouver they had a stray adult Lynx on the olympic ski trail that tried to climb out of the netting on the sides of the slopes for the skiers and coyotes too eat pet dogs.
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Me thinks "climate change" is in effect:
warm and rainy in Vancouver ....and snowing down south?
Perhaps they should move the Winter Olympics tonight
    to Alabama!!!!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    ..."it'll change again" ;-)
    yep, that's climate change LOL!
Actually, all that snow in D.C. might have come
'cause we were dancing to that full moon?
I called it the "Wolf Moon" but some Indian tribes call it the
    "SNOW Moon" OMG!
  • Rod Summers / VEC

Was it the dancing that made it snow on the pope today? Winter Olympics... why?
  • Judy Skolnick

All this fun and comraderie, Drinking, dancing snowball fight and snowpeople. Lets watch the Olympic games on the Cafe wide screen tv.
