matchbox art

Hello.
I am calling mail art for the first time.
One idea, I want to make art in/on matchbox or of box of its size.
I am not good at making small objects and just want to inspired from other. I would like to gather small sized box art.
I have no intension to show in public at the moment, but I will post on my blog.
Preferably match box size, but it could be like business card box or soap box, candy box etc... (intension of my project is a match box sized art but for YOU the kind of box is OPEN to your creativity)
Sending me in a regular sized airmail envelope, which means I like the box that fit in the size.
no due,
no fee,
international

Thank you.

I am a slow mailer but if you inspired me I will send back something in return.

Sender

This one is from Stripygoose from England I think she made the box herself and put an tiny owl in the box also the photo of the owl as the cover.

    Love it!!

  • stripygoose

Arrived safe and sound - that's good. You've got me hooked on matchbox art - thank you!

  • Tomoe N

Yes stripygoose, I see that you put a lot of thoughts in there.

    You made an original box.

I love the idea of recycle material animal.

    Thank you for the inspiration!

  • Tomoe N

Here is Keiichi Nakamura 's matchbox is it kind of like a Western painting on Japanese Byobu (screen)? my own interpretation...

plus his additional stamp sheet is funky.

  • Tomoe N

from @Taziana Baracchi I first thought it was a regular mail art but she said it's for the mail art call. looking at again the mail art bunny sheet has a size of the matchbox. It's do-it-yourself matchbox design. (^_^)

  • Tomoe N

    Thanks to Klaus Johansen

I have got matchbox design sheets and banana boat stamp sheet. i like it.

  • Tomoe N

  • William M

    that's really cool!

  • Tomoe N

    William,

Yes the call titled as matchbox art, but I also stated as "any small art box that fits in the size" so her work is perfectly fits. lol

I like her work because I love books.

I will post yours next. (busy so one at a time...)

I like your too because I am interested in space, SiFi, astronaut. :)

  • Tomoe N

  • Tomoe N

I just received Carina Granlund work today.

A Lego book in a Lego box....

    excellent work!

    I will take photos later...

  • William M

ha! you even took a picture of that santa stationery! the rubber stamped images are part of a project i'm doing "100 days of eraser carving" - i've done over 70 so far.

  • Tomoe N

    Hi William,

Yes I take photos and keep record on my blog everything I like. lol

I like Santa even it is not a Christmas. Message I keep as private...

Cool you are also doing eraser carving project.

I saw Allison Anne was doing on Facebook, and I was inspired also. I don't follow the project but I made my own project to practice doing eraser curving and linoleum curving. And when I have a lot and feel like I am getting better, I will make greeting cards and sell them.

I just started stamp curving project yesterday. :) My Day 1.

  • William M

oh, that's interesting tomoe. i think the more you do the better you get at it. though i'm not sure i feel that way about myself. ha! was there supposed to be a link to your day 1? i'd love to see it.

  • Tomoe N

William, I posted the blog link on my page...
I am a full time artist trying to sell my paintings, but it does not go well so I am thinking alternative ways.... I went to San Francisco and found many stores that sells handmade cards so I want to try something like that... ^^
  • William M

oh, i see and i found it. you might try using speedy cut to carve from. i've never seen it here, but i know there are sellers for it in japan(i saw it on amazon japan). i've heard it's softer and easier to carve than erasers.

  • Tomoe N

actually one is done with Speed Ball and line one is Japanese eraser for stamp. The Japanese stamp is designed for stamp cirving, sell both soft and hard ones. I am used to woodblock and linoleum cut, actually I am used to hard materials.
It's day 1 and I just need to get use to the curving techniques. Thank you.
  • Tomoe N

Thank you Visual Mom for the explanation...

Sounds nice and I am looking forward how 3 artists books coming in the box. Thank you!

I will check Collin Scholl page about his add & pass.

  • Heleen de Vaan

  • Heleen de Vaan

  • Tomoe N

Here is the box and 3 art books (that were inside the box) from Catherine M Bennett from the US.

Nice box but I see it took a lots of time to make all the boxes.

    Thank you.

  • William M

wow, those are all so cool!

  • Tomoe N

I took many photos but there are 2 accordion books with strings and 1 folded book in a large sized matchbox with design. She said all books are collaboration to other artists. And there is add and pass sheet also (did not post)
