Welcome back, Moan. Probably other members have seen the appropriation debate w/ you & Kerri Pullo on FB.

Both you & Kerri have been important participants in this group over the past years; so as far as I'm concerned, you are both always welcome.

We do have a good rhythm going with posting work. My guess is most have worked through where they stand on appropriation. But whatever.

  • Ficus strangulensis

I got an email from Moan[?] speaking of almost deleting something from an image[?] but feeling it needed to be there.

What ever happened to artists appropriate, great artists steal?

Isn't this all not for profit? Nullus Pretii[sp? my Latin's no good, refers to Frank Zappa's "no commercial potential"]

I hope that makes it "ok" and that we don' have Big Brother or Mommy-government looking over our shoulders waiting for someone to ph&&kup.

    END THE POETRY WARS

I've been doing asemic writing for 5 years, and it's been one long argument.

"Why can't we just all be friends?"

  • Ficus strangulensis

RE: "Mars Attacks" "Can't we all just get along?" heh, heh!

  • Ruud Janssen

open letter to DVS (hope he can read this, will send a print too)

  • Kerri Pullo

I didn't want to comment on this again. It needs to stop. I was addressing one person. Not making a global statement. I asked HIM not to use my work because I personally don't trust him. I'm not out scouring the Internet for pieces of my work being used. I asked HIM. And he disrespected that. I don't think everyone needs to be friends but they should be respectful to a simple request.
  • Kerri Pullo

Admittedly, I should have done that privately and I apologize for allowing my emotionality to overcome me and for whatever hurt it has caused to any other artists who became involved.
  • Kerri Pullo

Honestly, I don't quite understand this statement..."artists appropriate, great artists steal." But it doesn't apply to my person request to one artist. I don't know the history of "appropriating" and really never heard the term "appropriate art" until this public mess I created and was exacerbated by misunderstandings and emotions. I have no education in art history or theories or any other art related academic thought. I think I've made that clear previously. It doesn't excuse me from educating myself, which this experience has motivated me to do more of. Again, I sincerely apologize for the negativity I initiated in openly expressing my personal concern with one individual. It truly also had nothing to with asemics at all either but I am posting this here because it was mentioned. Ok. I'll stop now.
