Dear Ruud... I have like some of us a large relationship with a people in Post Office and we have a P.O. Box too... (in my case... for 27 years...) that in my Country is named Apartado Aéreo by the acronym A.A.
It´s a good idea to held a conversation and exchange opinions about The Post Office... and the P.O. Box too... this inusual objetc for XX century... because for the young people (teenagers) It´s irrelevant and Unknowing service...

I have always had good experiences with the postal office, the workers there and the P.O. Boxes. Mail-Art isn't always understood, but they seem always willing to help me. That is what I like so much abouth them.
Yes... of course... in the same way of your opinion... They celebrates always with your anonymous gesture our wild & informal communication trough Mail Art media and Channels... Like Post Office Places and P.O. Boxes analogical spaces...

My post office is great. The workers treat the artified envelopes and objects that I mail with great respect. When the mail comes in for POSTMARKED annual events, they treat them with special care. Terrific folks! (POSTMARKED 2009 is coming in March)
Me, I'm quite satisfied with my P.O. staff's attitude to mail art and to my activities as well. Some of the P.O. girls even come to my mail art show presentations. When I send something extremely "unusual" they ask me where to put cansellation stamps. They even allow me to photograph them at mail art work:
I also love the post office staff where I go the most often. I've had some bad experiences with some post offices where they don't know me but they are rare and I just avoid those. :) My favorite post office in this area is in El Sobrante and it's the main post office there. It's really big, new, easy to park there, and the people who work there are not only kind and friendly but also supportive to mail artists and other people using the post office a lot. I don't live in El Sobrante, though, I live in Richmond (and have my PO Box in Berkeley). In Richmond, I have two Post Offices I go to - my favorite is on San Pablo Ave. near Garvin. Each post office has its own flavor - the way it looks, its age and size, but mainly the people who work there. I also love my mail carrier. He's got a great upbeat attitude and is very solicitous of my mail art going out and coming in.
Usually I mail my art just in the post box, so no need to go to the post office. Unfortunately may be. And now I even have one reason less: I've bought quite some stamps in advance so I don't need to go to the PO for them.

In Venice we were looking for any post office to send tourist cards. We were lucky to find the main one. We were greatly impressed by this magnificent building and the yard:

I used to work at the post office in my hometown for a while. well, it wasn't as beautiful as shown here, but it stands to reason Post-Office deals with all incoming and outgoing mail-art:) and it's full of art and even magic itself: all those beautiful stamps from all over the world (I naturally became obsessed collecting them and downloading the pictures of them by rapidshare search engine and many others), post cards, even lotteries...no emails can substitute that!

"Mail Art"...The mail box is used by the Greek postal service to store the day's mail delivery for a local area of about 10 city blocks or so. Then the postman comes by and picks up what he can carry to deliver to the first neighboring area and returns to pick up more as the day goes by, etc.
This particular box is on the corner where the soccer fans pass by on their way to the stadium which is two blocks away. Thus the GRAFFITI!
There really is a "mail box" under all that "art" :-)
