An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

Thankyou both for your comments!

I have been using a perforating wheel for my stamps up until now but have just bought a nifty steel perforating screen so I should be able to replicate 'proper' stamp perforations if it works as well as the guy in the shop said it does!

The images I am posting here are applied digitally to a blank stamp template though - I thought they looked a bit bit more presentable that way!

Wow, everything looks wonderful! [And great taste in lit. Chrisopher! %_^]

@Susanna - very nice! It looks like you use perforated sheets - may I ask where you get those? Or are they just printed to look that way?

Create on....!

THIS IS THE SECOND IN A COLLABORATIVE ARTISTAMP EFFORT BY JOEL COHEN (NYC) AND MIKE DICKAU (SACRAMENTO CA) ABOUT JOEL AND HIS WIFE DIANE'S VACATION IN RODANTHE, NORTH CAROLINA. THE TWO COMMEMORATIVES BOTH RELATE TO ARTISTAMP AND MAIL ART THEMES:

FIRST TIMER!

Hi, this is my first post here. I have been playing around with stamp designs for some time now, and not doing anything with them, so I have begun to sort them out and share them here...

This came out of a separate project featuring some of my favourite authors.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Christopher

Great surf stamp! Is it part of a set?
