Call grand project

For an artist book to be published online I'm collecting the 26
alphabet letters a-z from around the world. Send me a letter if you have
one.

mail@noemata.net

Letters taken: G, Q, Y, X, C, M, R, A, P, S, Z, D
G ("g dying center stage"). Peter Ciccariello
Q or any (The first agrarian display font from the experimental silos of The
Institute of PhytoTypography). mIEKAL aND
Y (thorn, Wiki). Halvard Johnson
X ("Big X Little x"). Bill Dimichele
X. Andrew Topel
C (from the NOISE project). Marilyn R. Rosenberg
M (M —, poem). Jeff Harrison
R. Carl Baker
A. Margaret Lammerts
P, S. Dennis Ruud
P. Peter Bushell
A, Z (from cut paper from book "Alphabet for Lovers", 2008). Ama Bolton
A. Leonard Seastone
D. Erin K. Schmidt
X. Emily J. Martin

In more detail -

The simple idea is to collect the 26 a-z letters from various sources
(people, places) as an artist book, which at the same time forms a
keyboard to write, thus making the book the means of writing, and in
that sense an inverted definition of a book (as the book comes before
the writing).

Q W E R T Y U I O P
A S D F G H J K L
Z X C V B N M

If you have one of these letters, kindly send a response with the
letter attached (in ascii, utf-8, unicode, or MIME, image, or in any
form or media).

The call is intentionally left open to interpretations. Though I hope
it's enough for understanding the purpose.

The completed book is published online with the list of contributors.

Trying to explain in another way -

The finished book is published online in the form of a keyboard (not a
physical keyboard, but a representation) like the one we're writing on
now. The letters of the keyboard are contributed from different people
and places. The letters can be contributed in "any form" (as art,
image, text, concept). The idea is to make a book which at the same time
is represented as a keyboard for writing. And the keyboard for writing
is then likewise represented as a book of illustrated letters. I wanted
to invert somehow the concepts of reading and writing (book and
letters).

E for me ?

Sure E,

E for you.

Do I name you as 'E' also in the contributor list?

"E" - Ambassadeur d'Utopia

Thanks.

Do you know the letter series by Peter Blake?

He did something like this quite a while ago, and produced 26 pages -- each of a different letter -- of collages each about 100 x 70 cms.

And then he has printed them in a number of series.

They are very good, but expensive -- about €600 each letter signed and dated by the artist.

Val

PS. Google 'Peter Blake letters' and then 'Images', and you will see Blake's work

Thanks, yes, I think I've seen them before without remembering exactly.

I guess one could do something similar with the keyboard, which is somewhat our alphabet structure now.

The project I'm doing is more conceptual maybe, and not commercial. Reversing some ideas about the book and writing (product and process).

"K" for Katerina

as in MomKat :-)

Thanks MomKat, I'll include it in the book.

I'll do "T"

Great, I'll reserve the place for you in the book

Regards,

Bjørn
