Event Description

Due to the expense of mailing these, I will not be sending any china overseas. :(

Both of my Polish grandparents lived through Nazi Germany.

My grandpa used to tell stories about the war and one of them was about working in the china factory, where after they were done eating they would just toss the plates out the window because they were worthless during the wartime.

To me this story is a beautiful representation of the destructive forces at work during that time period, and i would love to capture it in my own art.

We have a set of fine china given to us by my grandparents for our wedding, and we don't host parties at all, we're just not that kind of people. we've hung on to the dishes for going on ten years and i've decided this is how best to get rid of them.

If you would like to receive a (most probably broken or chipped) piece of our wedding gift, please RSVP with the promise you will return the favor by sending back a piece of your own artwork to my grandparents, who hang on to life by thinner threads as the years pass by. These people truly are survivors.

their address:

Henry & Kay Wozniak

617 44th St

RSVP and i will send out one of our dishes.

(one going out each week for 45 weeks)

limited quantity, first come, first serve.

(please post pictures in the comments)

Oh, noooo worries!   You don't need to send me anything!  I know how expensive postage can be- especially with odd shapes and multiple people to send to.  I've gotten involved in collaborative book mailings with 25 people- and I don't think I can afford to do that anymore, both for the amount of cash and the time it took to make 25 individual booklets.  I am happy to mail to your grandparents without any return- I've been thinking about what to send them for a long time!  I usually work with the female figure/nudes/pin-ups and the fetishization of the female form, but for grandparents, I had to work with something a little less bawdy.  So they are going to get a collage of American super heroes mixed with WWII imagery- nothing too avant-garde.  I hope you and they are well.  Cheers!
