I noticed in various contributions, that many artists (''artists'' perhaps ?) are using large number of other's people works, taken from newspapers, magazines, books,etc. That could inflict the copyrights. In many cases, nobody will discuss it, and no legal matters will arise. Still, I think it is not artistic to use so many of non-original work/s in your own work. I don't want to point my finger to any particular person, but I am sure it is wrong way to make something ''new'' or ''original''and to call it your own work. It is fine to source inspiration from others, but it is just totally opposite to blatantly take others works and make ''collages'' or whatever one could call such works. I also noticed there is not so much of original works, seems it is just easier to ''cut and paste'' or cut out and stick, than to draw or make your own work with your own hands and brains.

Picasso used a piece of packaging I'm the 1st known collage.. your encroaching on a fundamental and integral part of the entire process of collage. Another of us upcycle vintage ephemera in our collage work. Quite frankly without the use of them.in our collage there is no other use for all this old ephemera! Outdated schematics , packaging,  receipts, tickets  stubs, old hunting and fishing licenses , love letters, photos, the list goes on and on. So get over yourself. There after all is not 1 thing that isn't truly original because we all stand upon the shoulders of giants that have done the work that has.come b4 us and makes up most of our conscious thoughts and knowledge. The curriculum in school vame from somewhere, mathematics began in Arabic countries  somewhere so are you stealing when you use an equation to measure your mass produced paper you draw on with paper and pencils created by someone else I think your a thief because you didn't invent the wheel. This concept is absolutely ridiculous to even discuss that nothing is original only when we are creating a collage is bullshit the entire damn world is a process of mimic and repeat and learn...so my hats of to you for whining about collage and ignoring the fact everything came from the end of something else.

you are putting the words in my mouth, the most of what you wrote I barely mentioned, and if so, it was in different way with different meaning. I never wrote anything about what you wrote, especially ''entire process of collage'' etc. So your writing is basically on the same topic, but you did not comment what I wrote about. You should start your own topic and then others can comment. I don't have a time to comment on your miss-comments.

I think this is a good point. I pull from all sorts of different sources to create my work. Sometimes I pull from very obscure sources but other times I pull from very well known sources. I think there is a difference here with using established materials if I were making money from it and just reprinting, say, Mickey Mouse, with absolutely no addition or anything contributed on my part aside from reprinting it. But, if I wanted to print up a Mickey Mouse and send it to a mail artist friend and write something on the back like: "Thou shalt not steal." is this still copyright infringement? Disney might think so. I profit nothing from this monetarily and would delight in imagining what the receiver might think. I like this post. I just don't believe in it necessarily. Totally would love to start a mail art exchange with you and see what happens.
