This is so lovely....waiting for mail! I was at boarding school from the age of seven, and waitiing for mail at breakfast time was a crucial part of the day! My great aunt Katie even used to send me the birthday cake she had made for me. Rich fruit cake with icing so hard it never got damaged in transit! Imagine what that would cost to send today! Pip
Thank you so much for the wonderful envelope and art you sent! It truly made my day. I will upload a photo later, but for now I wanted to let you know it arrived and brightened my mailbox! Thanks! Heidi
Going back to you 23 Feb question, "Did you ever receive my 'chakalaka'?!" I'm not sure what that is. I've torn things apart around here and the last thing I received from you was this piece, a href="http://iuoma-network.ning.com/photo/shining-figure-in-gold-and-pink-by-petrolpetal?context=user>" target="_blank">http://iuoma-network.ning.com/photo/shining-figure-in-gold-and-pink-by-petrolpetal?context=user>
Admittedly, I have been a bit remiss on getting back to folks over the past month or so, but I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anything of yours.
Looking at your recent outgoing photos, I think your chakalaka might be something completely different. Yes?
I love this. Nowhere did I ever mention Roswell, but it seems to be enough of a cultural iconic story that all who have received the edition have referred to it as such — with just the mention of "a weather balloon."
This may sound a bit fanatic, but have you heard the song, "Unmarked Helicopters," by Soul Coughing [you can log into youtube and listen to it]? The lyrics include the words, "it was a weather balloon," but nowhere in the song is Roswell mentioned [I dig this tune]. I find the cult of governmental conspiracy theories completely fascinating. I am a cynic by nature, but I love to hear and read about the stories . . . Are we alone in the universe? Statistically, most likely not . . . traveling light years to visit this outpost of a planet? Weeelll . . .
Exchanging some mail would be great, I received a post card shortly after signing up here but it has no info on it, it does look like Mail Art, do you know anything about that? I guess I could email the person as his email was on the card....
Hi! I am new (like yesterday) to IUOMA. I looked at the pictures of the art but am not sure how to do this. It seems that i am seeing one side of a post-card right? One side is made into art by the sender (Me) and the other side is for address and comments to the receiver (you)? I will try it that way and see what happens. Or is all the art put into envelopes and sent through the mail as a card in an envelope? Sorry to be so dense, but I could not tell what I was seeing physically. Thank you! Connie
Tomorrow I am going to post her a short letter with some blank cards so she can reply to others also. She is a very simple and straightforward person. She has sent me paintings I think one of them is really beautiful I'll email you a copy. In terms of books she likes biographies of especially women, Phoolan Devi, Malala but also Nelson Mandela. But she also loved Wodehouse and The girl with the dragon tatoo trilogy. I sent her a copy of Gogol's dead souls which had prints by someone really famous but i cant remember his name very simple style. She loves flowers and birds. She has been in mainly solitary confinement since the age of 28 for the past 13 years and is remarkably sane for all that. She is very open has read the Hindu Classics Mahabharat, Ramayana, the Vedas, Upanishads, she really liked south Indian Bhakti poetry. Also Tagore and the Little Prince. She's tried to read the Bible and Quran as well as her own Sanamahi religious texts. She is a very simple ordinary down to earth woman and I am sure she would want to learn more about your experiences whatever fascinated you. I will try to look out for something just to send you for now as I am off to the post office tomorrow but I will look out for something more interesting once the festivals start here. Whatever you think. It will give her a little boost. I think I was one of the first people to write to her when I began nearly five years ago. I'm the only one who writes to her consistently. But anything you'd like. For someone in prison it's always nice to get mail. May you be happy.
What you're doing is nicer I shall send you off something tomorrow probably just a postcard pen and something kitsch but if I see anything for the Paddy Parade I'll send it on. This year Portumna are playing in the All Ireland Final Hurling it's a big sport here so they are probably doing to postpone the parade which is also a big thing. I'll definitely send you something tomorrow but i'll look out for stuff when the art season starts. Many thanks. It does cheer her to know she is not completely isolated, it all helps.
Hi Petrolpetal--glad that my mail art arrived, although it seems to take about 4 weeks to get there. Regarding themes: a theme gives me a place to start. However, I don't stick rigidly to themes. Sometimes I react to what is sent, or feel moved by a piece of ephemera. Your pieces are very original and themes may not fit your style, but you can try it and see how it works for you.

Does South Africa have a "Roswell" incident?
Hello! Received your mail art! I am working (slowly) on a response to send! -Xydexx
No worries man. And thanks.
Hey. Thanks. Love your beautifully decorative stuff.
I would love to exchange Mail Art with you. I haven't exchanged any yet, and I'm still trying to figure this out. Thanks for the invite.
Thanks :)
