You're very welcome, Petropetal. That took a lot of weeks! Mail time is usually unpredictable between where you are and I am. Thank you back for the fun and original mail arts from you recently, of trinkets and empty/full. Let's hope the slow blogging I restarted will continue on...  :--}

"The mail I'll be sending is not invisible, nor disappearing, nor transparent, nor light sensitive....."

I'm intrigued...and wonder how many of those adjectives apply to you!
Visibly yours, Val

In 2012, there was an exhibition titled 'Invisible Art: about the Unseen', at the Hayward Gallery in London. (I didn't go, but I got the catalogue°). It was basically about art -- if you can call it that -- that didn't exist: an empty plinth, a blank wall,  some air bottled in a glass jar, a room with nothing in it, etc.

Fascinating, but, well, daft.

Imagine this conversatiuon between a Curator (C) and the Hayward's Director (D):

C: I've got this great idea for an exhibition.

D: what's it  going to be about?

C: er, invisible art.

D: what's that?

C: art that, well, doesn't exist.

D: how do you plan to exhibit something that doesn't exist?

C: dunno, but give me a budget, and I'm bound to come up with something

D: we have lots of things here that do exist. Why can't we exhibit them?

C: (deathly silence, and then, well you can continue this if you like, Dear Petrolpettal)

Thank you!

I occasionally describe  myself asa 'Conceptual Artist', but have never thought that I'm a 'Conceptual Mail Artist'.

There is more to this 'Do not open' theme.

Look at the IUOMA video referenced below -- it might amuse you...and then let me know what you think of it??

(There is a Danish version of this floating around on the Internet somewhere, but I can't seem to find it right now, and, anyway, the sound track is in Danish which might be Double Dutch -ha!- to you)

Do Not Open

You're an absolute hero. Now I tried to send you some local tat. I hope it wasn't too embarrassing. One was a pen that no longer works. I was trying to use art to attack functionalism. The Pen is still a Pen. You just can't write with it. That doesn't lessen its Penness. And a postcard which I think was meant seriously referring to the ancient Irish family of the O'Bamas from County Kilkenny I believe. The shore lines festival will be here this summer it's big for Portumna I promise I'll send you something more arty then. Many thanks. They look really beautiful. I regret I have no skills.

No, I didn't notice the penis effect right away. I noticed the butt effect on the soldier with the scabbard, but not the erect flower penis suggested by the cutout. Very clever, and fun. If it was an accident, a funny and interesting one. What knocked me out at first were the rich colors and torn gold papers which were lovely. Anyway, cheers!

I received 'Handle With Care' this week; I'll assume that is the new mail spoken of. Thank you.

It looks like you've been carving out some stamps. Cool stuff, I really like the layering of material — tissue over print.

Your description of the missing chakalaka sounds like I missed out on a good read. Fortunately the thought of handle with care made the post office a bit more mindful of this last piece.
