Two Large Mail Art Pieces from Two New Friends

Birthe Petersen (Denmark) and Nadia Aroca (Spain) recently sent some really great work to me through the mail...

From Birthe, an intriguing figurative envelope with a white shadow spectre…which turns out to be the perfect spot for my address to go.

And that was just the envelope! Inside was a whole other piece of art, collaged and hand drawn—two seal pups observing a blond-haired figure, with the sky bringing down water and sun rays. I'm very attracted to the line-form style of this drawing. It shows a mastery of figurative study experience, but leaves a lot of interpretation up to the mind and eye. Almost abstract with a sense of storyline… beautiful!

And from Nadia in Barcelona—one of my favorite cities hands-down—a Red Cross Mermaid to the rescue! One of the most delightful freestyle hand-painted figures I've encountered. Nadia used a paintbrush as though it were an ink pen, using a cross-hatching technique, but producing a beautiful Sumi-e (Japanese ink-wash) effect:

Brilliant and beautiful. Thanks to both these mail artists.
