Stop the presses! David Stafford has entered the contest! (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA)

Mail-art by IUOMA member David Stafford (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA)

March 8, 2014 - At MinXus-Lynxus, we are just enchanted that David Stafford has leapt onto the banana peel-strewn catwalk of the Who Has The Best Hair Contest. A trend spotter and a trend setter, David is betting the ranch that the bouffant with a Japanese twist will be the Official MinXus Cut of 2014.

Does he have some insider info? Empress Marie, our petulant judge, will be swayed, no doubt, by this entry. But will the legendary MinXus bias against brunettes tip the scales toward the dumpster? Look out for those banana peels, David! And avoid an all-out mud wrestling catfight with other jealous contestant! You can always win a hairband in the Whig Party category.

MinXus-Lynxus is all about the best hair, but David Stafford knows we are more than skin deep. He has included a poem that shows there is something deep and meaningful beneath that Bouffant. Will he win a Lifetime Literary Achievement Prize? The poem shows real knowledge of a rhythmic line and some excellent enjambs that sedate the over-the-top Whitmanic surrealism.

Empress Marie aka "The Runaway Beatnik Girl," nodding with all her angel-headed hipster friends in the Bay Area, will no doubt be snapping her fingers by the hydrogen jukebox to David's gone cadences.

I predict a big win for this surprise entry.

Great story, BG, and suggests when we do choose the Official MinXus Cut, we should have some very clear guidelines about what is compliant and what is not in terms of height of bouffant, etc. (Not suggesting the bouffant will be the official cut. That is still to be decided by Marie. Some sort of Marie Antoinette revival could be in the offing.)

And, yes, wigs have emerged big in the contest.

All this talk of whigs and wigs reminds me of when I was in high school.  The principal enacted a new rule whereby all men had to groom their hair above the collar.  Some of my friends wore their mother's wigs to school, with their hair neatly tucked up under them.  By the end of the day, long curls of men's hair could be seen dangling beyond the school's rules.  It was so ridiculous it was hilarious.  I think the principal gave up within a week with that one.

David can sing cowboy-style too.  Great blog and work.

David, then this mail-art call is a welcome refuge and new hope for your shattered dreams concerning the big hair baseball cards (great link). I do think this is geared toward the judge - nothing wrong with that. We'll await her response at M-L. She's away for a few days but will have to get down to sorting through all this soon. Looking forward to more mail from you!

Rebecca, definite sportsmanship points for liking this blog and acknowledging David's entry. I will soon post your third entry in the contest! The competition is fierce, fierce!

This card is part of the Big Hair Japanese Baseball card series which I thought was going to be my ticket out of this one horse town. Alas, it was not to be. However, check out this fine, fine book that inspired this:

DVS, thank you for this fine, fine, super fine blog...I'll settle for Miss Congeniality if that award is still available.

BTW, there's another entry on the way.
