September 16, 2010 - From the first time I saw his mail art at the IUOMA a few months ago, I wanted to be Ander Morlando's friend. I like the clarity, vibrant color, and his mastery of technology to make art (which is better seen in his IUOMA portfolio). I've also been intrigued by the ideas Ander must have that inform his work. I especially like and ponder about his "Simbolicus erratus" series. In the piece he sent me, he uses popcult images; and you can find that elsewhere in his work too. The mail art I received from him is on one big piece of cardboard. Above and below are detail shots:
My Italian is nonexistent, so I'd appreciate it if anyone has more knowledge of what Ander is doing because I'm very interested. I think he's using as basic inspiration Joe D'Amato's "Rosso Sangue," a horror/slasher movie known as "Absurd" in the U.S. and released circa 1981 - that's what I got from Google. Am I even close? Julian Grant might know. I only know I totally love these images. For me, ya know, it's pretty much Spiderman and Sponge Bob when I'm not watching IUOMA TV. Here's the flip side:
A while back I saw vispo work by a guy named Eduardo Cardoso in Portugal at IUOMA. One thing led to another, and I found out Eduardo has a blog called "Paranormal Mailart," which many here know.
http://paranormalmailart.blogspot.com/
I thought this was a great concept. The quote beside Eduardo's pic says, "I AM PERPLEXED." Then I noticed Ander Morlando was posting mail art about "Paranormal Mail Art Italy." After some messages back and forth one weekend, beset by translation absurdities, I learned Eduardo and Ander are cousins. They have some plan they are rolling out. These are two friends I am totally enjoying. Here's the full piece by Ander Morlando:
I salute you, brother!
