Received: More Fan Club Mail-Art (Staten Island or Brooklyn, New York, USA)

November 16, 2010 - This ambiguously signed and cryptically messaged mail-art arrived a few weeks ago. Unless I am losing it entirely, this technically adept (hardly Old School) image depicts a number of episodes chronicled in my previous IUOMA blogs:

1) The Mars Bar is a reference to "Honest Mom! Simba at Erni Bar's Mail-Art" (Was NOT a Fluxus dog act!!!)

2) The primate is a reference to the Monkey Purge.

3) The crucifixion is a reference to a mail-art piece depicting me as The Pope (of Sloanism), which was posted in the gallery (by my good friend Batgirl) and held the top-rated spot for what I thought was way too long.

4) The swords are I think referencing a cheesy magic act - I guess I've been compared to that.

Thanks for the mail-art!

I just googled "eel symbolism".

More than a saint it looks like Jesus to me.
The things you're getting, Sloan!

Hi Lisa, I didn't understand those serpenty things either - eels? And, okay, the language on the thing was so obscene I cropped it out - but in a funny way, but still. Another side of mail-art, I guess. I wasn't sure about posting it.

Hi Katerina - that is INTERESTING. I don't know who sent it. It's definitely collage done on a computer - very high tech.

Thanks Katerina - I know this one - but its not what I am thinking of - I am going to hunt - but I think you are right - it was St Sebastian. I had Andrew going round my head!

Wow, I didn't think it was such a high resolution...big image!
Anyway the image with the Mars bar looks like a combination of several pics,
because the feet look like something from a crucifixion. It is a montage, that's for sure :-)

Cheryl, there are several depictions of the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian, like the one I am posting. This one is in Aalst, Belgium by the Master of St. Lucy Legend. Name of artist unknown.

I think there are many like that. But I suppose it's possible.

Help! I know the composition and exact pose of this work - I thought it was by Albrecht Durer, but its not - this is going to irritate me until I find out. It was the depiction of the death of a saint. An etching or engraving - obviously minus the mars bar!
