Val, the Darlo is texturally intriguing. When I received it, and even now, my finger keeps tracing the shape and texture.....

Your envelopes are always fun, and I loved your Val art stamp...thank you my friend *!*

Bonjour Amy!

Thanks for posting this.

There's 2 prints here.

The little square one (sort of based on an aboriginal wall carving) is a lino print. You can see some of my lino prints in my web-site www.val-herman-art.eu, then the section on Lino Prints.

The curvy thing with a hole in the middle is called a 'Darlo', because I started printing these when I was in Darlington a few weeks ago. I do them all in all shapes and colours, mostly singles and sometimes multiples. The simplicity of them fascinates me. Sometimes I add something to the hole.

The Darlo is a 'found' object, well found lying around on a shelf in my house. Can you guess what it was originally made for? Or made of? Guess right, and you 'win' a selection of Darlos!

I also make prints out of soft rubbers/erasers (like the ValMail one that was on the front of the envelope, and the smiling face [based on a Green Man] that I think was on the back of the envelope I sent you).

Regards, Val
