RECEIVED: 2 X Sue - Mail-Art by Asemics 16 Contributor Prettylily (Norfolk, Virginia, USA)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Sue Bowen (Prettylilly) (Norfolk, Virginia, USA)

June 23, 2011 - Sue Bowen is an excellent mail-art friend. We've had a little brand confusion lately because she has also chosen the name Prettylilly. Mail-artists seem to acquire a number of different identities by choice and popular demand.

Sue makes wonderful collages. As the work above reveals, she also has a talent for vispo (visual poetry) and vispo elements are apparent in her work. Sue was an early and enthusiastic supporter of the Asemics 16 collaborative mail-art book project coordinated by Cheryl Penn (South Africa) and me. I think Sue's current work with asemics is also reflected in these two post-card size pieces especially in the threading, twisting lines.

Sue likes to experiment. In the months I've known her, I've seen her produce art using an astonishing number of different styles and approaches. I can always count on her for something fresh and interesting. She also sends nice notes and interesting material on reverse sides:

Many thanks Sue! I look forward to more exchanges and with even greater excitement of Asemics 16.

Please keep them coming. We're not keeping score, but it's definitely IOU. Yes, I saw you weighed in on the animals in mail-art issue. You're one of The Cat People (favorite films of mine). Everybody seems to need a mascot or, like the Iroquois where each person had to find a manitou, an animal spirit that guides you safely through the forest.
