It's been about a month since I closed my facebook account and since then I've pretty faithfully posted all post received on my REAL wall and up online.

The results have been really pleasing and I like the fact that it's not only my former facebook friends who have sent me things, but members of the wider world, after I put a few adverts out for post. It's been really cool receiving mail from strangers, like Gareth, which has gone on to inspire me to create more and more intricate presentations of the work on my site www.myrealwall.com and www.flickr.com/photos/andytgeezer

I like the idea that the wall is not just a receptacle for art, dependant on mail, but is itself a work of art. In addition, leaving facebook and adopting REAL wall ideas, I have really started to think beyond the constraints of that system and am nowo exploring the limits of REAL presentation.

It's refreshing!

Thanks Dawn. I've not heard the terms, but I presume they map on to the terms REAL and online that I have been lately using to describe the interactions that happen between people these days.

In my opinion, all relationships with people and groups need to go through stages, from formation to functional and then intimate relationship, and ultimately they conclude in some way.

The concept of a non-terminal relationship that no longer REALLY exists but stagnates in cyberspace is in my opinion an unnatural state for a human interaction and hence the REAL wall looks to address this bizarre human state, by encouraging people to make an effort to REALLY meet or to REALLY keep a good relationship alive.

If you are based near my house, I will invite you to come over and put your work on my wall personally, if I send stuff and you put it on your wall, that is speaks of a certain intimacy lacking in a virtual wall post.

Anyway I'm rambling, tell me if I'm on the right track and if not, I'd appreciate learning about Smithson's work
