The first Mail-Art from China arrived without any problems. The sending itself was a small problem as I read. The postcard that was sent had to be enclosed in an envelope for the postal office to accept it. They are strict about the formal rules.

delighted that it arrived! i can now entrust more ambitious pieces to the post.

Emi - interesting point of discussion. i agree that open dissent in mail-art is not likely to be a frequent thing. regarding Mao, he's mostly a kitsch-figure now - a harmless and Warhol-esque pop icon to all but the most devout. we worked with this idea in Shanghai, painting a larger-than-life bust of Mao on a public graffiti wall. no-one had any compunction about tagging over his face - but they left the portrait of Yao Ming (basketball player) quite reverentially intact, and wrote angry slogans over the image of a recent party official.

i'd like to work these ideas into mailarts somehow; socially relevant themes presented in a non-political fashion. tangentially, i wonder if any mail whatsoever would make it to Tibet.....

thanks for the inspiration, Erni, and I welcome your further comments.
