Fluxus panda by Moan Lisa (Iowa City, Iowa, USA)

Mail-art by Moan Lisa (Iowa City, Iowa, USA)

June 7, 2013 - I am currently in the process of documenting a larger collection of wonderful and sometimes unusual mail-art by Moan Lisa. The work posted here is a relatively recent acquisition that showcases, among other things of course, Moan's outstanding stamp work. I have always been partial to the panda stamp shown above.

This piece, I think, is an outstanding example of Moan Lisa's visual poetry, which is constantly changing and evolving.  The underlying "found text" very likely references Moan Lisa's psychiatric ward pieces done earlier this year. Characteristic of material from this era is the stamp or stencil overlays that achieve such nice textures.

The envelope also exhibits some very fine stamping.

As ever, many thanks to Moan Lisa. Documentation of the collection will continues!

Rebecca, this certainly shows a facet of Moan Lisa, and there are very, very many. We usually associate artists with a recognizable style. Moan is so constantly evolving and changing that I do not believe it is possible.

That 'm' in IUOMA is quite poignant.

Yesterday on Google`+ there was a posting that Moan Lisa had been (again) suspended for posting offensive materials. This was largely a vispo series that used nude photographs. I know with community standards and personal reactions, these things can be very difficult to sort out. I do believe it is difficult for Moan Lisa to have to deal with this sort of rejection. So if you can "be nice" to Moan (however that is manifested) this would be a good time.
