The Amazing Citizens project by the artist Juan Petry has been around for over 14 years. It is a contemporary examination of an ancient phenomenon. The driving force behind the development of a society, from the very beginnings of societies in general, has always been and will always be the responsible citizen. Threatened by those who want to gain power or not lose it, hindered by the constant struggle for survival, he is not even aware that he is and will remain this driving force. Seduced, misinformed, displaced, forgotten, he appears on the fringes of public narratives, and yet is always the real protagonist. The motif and the theme appear again and again. It runs like a thread through the conceptual artist's entire work. Whether as a sculpture in the city center of Essen, as an installation in a Spanish museum, as a series in Artsurprise, as a contribution to the Dadaland project in Serbia, citizens as the foundation of every free society are given space and a presence in the artist's work, and something that is often neglected: appreciation. It is also an appeal to citizens to become aware of their own strength, not to allow themselves to be subjugated and to establish humanity and peace, especially in the face of the new generations to come.
