Every so often something arrives that really knocks you out...

and this piece from J Block is one of those pieces! To begin with , like many of you, I am crazy about maps and the topographic maps always exert a particular pull. This piece shaved out of a magazine, I think, but the first thing I notice is it's map feel, the haptic nature of the piece and the use of pattern and colour.  It appeals to me on many levels.  J has a subtle sense of colour and here he uses it to great affect. Choices like the word TOR on a raised area and overlapping tracing paper -  the GREEN - the blue demonstrate the care and intention that J took over this stunning piece.  I am very thankful that he sent it to me!

I wanted to make something special for you.   You did the beautiful book so this is what came from that... really a collaborative effort... one inspiration from another.  Had a good time in the making as well, bits of paper flying... the blue keep getting smaller and center needed filling... always looking to balance touch and color, type and line... thank you

And mr Block makes cut up magazines look like rocks too.  I have enjoyed showing it to people dabbling in Mail art. They are in awe!

It's really stunning! Remind me mosaics, Gaudi architecture, fractals... such a meditation to look at his work!

Jay & the Americans. Anyone know that band? Some interesssting members as Burroughs might have said.

Anyway, OUR Jay creeps up on you, doesn't he? You think: "Mail-art Nouveau." But then stuff is there - like your view about topographical maps, Rebecca. Thx for Cher-ing.
