Mail art by Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

August 14.2018 - Longtime correspondent Annette Kesterson sent me this wonderful postcard-size piece I am absolutely thrilled to share.

I adore this colorful, lovely textured abstract art that keeps the action in painting. (This seems a little different from classic AK, but then again she is eclectic.) Annette Kesterson suggests in this piece (see below) speed and spontaneity in composition (theme and practice in mail art). She emphasizes unfolding process. She also – perhaps I only imagine – adds a touch of irony to her work that gives it more depth. (In this case it’s all in the note on the reverse side.)

I suggest that you spend some quiet time with the work as I find it remarkable just how much is going on in that small space. I detect asemic possibilities here too, but then I am guilty of seeing asemics in everything these days. I am also overly susceptible to abstract art or someone writing in French. Still, I hope you enjoy this work as much as I do.
