From September 19 to 27, 2015, Richmond, Virginia, USA, will host an amazing event for bicyclists. The cyclists will come from all over the world. I'm very excited about this. The prediction is that we'll have 450,000 visitors to our small city during that time. Read about it HERE.
So, what does a Mail Artist do? She starts a Mail Art call! I've enlisted two venues, so far, where work will be displayed in West Main Village and Carytown near the routes or where visitors will circulate. I'd love to have lots and lots of Mail Art to exhibit.
I'll be posting entries on the
http://bicyclesrva2015.blogspot.com blog, as they arrive in the post.

Comment
I'll definitely consider any and all ideas for display and will present those to the venue managers. I posted an interview with Greig Leach, my friend the bicycle race artist, on the bicyclesrva2015 blog. Check it out.
Oh well, it was just an idea.
(I don't want to steer this too far away from your proposed exhibition, but if, at a later time you'd like to do a mail art exhibition based on x-rays, I'm sure i could contribute at least half a dozen works based on various bits -- shoulder, neck, back, foot, etc -- of my battered body)
Val, your x-ray would probably not need an explanation as I know many people who've gotten injured recently while riding their bikes. Often it's because a car door would be opened on them.
Neither venue so far has enough room to hang bicycle wheels though I thoroughly like that idea. I promised venue #2 that I wouldn't damage their walls, which probably means ceilings, too. ha ha ha
Hi Mim. I don't know if you've thought much about how you are going to exhibit your bike mail art. If not, let me share an idea with you. Using small clothes-pegs you can pin postcards to bike wheels (which you could possibly hang from a ceiling, or place on a shelf or table, or...). In fact you can exhibit a lot of postcards in, on and around a bike, if there is space for it in the venues.
PS; I was thinking of sending you a postcard featuring the x-ray of my right shoulder which I hurt badly in mid-January when I fell off my bike. But perhaps something more bike-oriented and less medical would be better§!
Thanks, Val and Katerina. I'm very excited about this though I haven't ridden my bike in years. I have two, folding German bike circa 1964 (Falter brand) and some other multi-gear one that my neighbor gave me. I loved riding, but in recent years have worried about the crazy car people not minding the bicycling people. Things might be changing. Our street has been designated a bike route. Yay!
Bonsoir! I was living in Maastricht a decade or so ago when it hosted the World Championships. It was great, especially the Ttime Trial events. NB, the impact on local traffic by road closures.
I'll pump my mountain bike tyres up, go for a spin to seek some inspiration, and then send something to the Exhibition.
