A Book for Marie (Marie Wintzer Japan)

Marie and I have been swopping work for a few months.  Her work which is aesthetically fantastic WANTED a home. The Book as Vessel.  She sent me a bookmark which I made into a cover for an artist's book titled A Book for Marie.  The colophon reads :

A Book for Marie.  Unique Artist's Book made by Cheryl Penn to hold the artwork of Marie Wintzer, Japan. (Mail Art Correspondence from fellow IUOMA member). Pocket Book, collage binding, including 3 hole pamphlet stitch, size A5, 36 pages, 18 pockets. Mixed media including sewing, text, collage, printing.  Book made from various handmade papers and violeen.

Spine detail showing pamphlet stitches.

I have included all Maries notes, envelopes and photographs of work that has been contributed for other projects - for example The World is a Town project and Red. A note about the bookmark and paper samples are the  first page of the book.

And example of the pockets which hold the various envelopes.

Some of the envelopes have been split to form pages.

Marie - it has been fantastic working with you  - thank you Sweet Pea akka H.S. - you have MANY more pages to fill - how great for me :-) x

Katerina you dont need a sewing machine! I dont either so I staple the pockets onto my pages. Will put up a pic later of my latest mail art book.

HS!!! How wonderfully lucky me! Love those thick strings, the stitches, everything. I'm getting a bit emotional now...

Those empty pockets better be prepared, there is more to come...

A very happy pea!

What a beautiful and ingenious way of collecting all the fabulous mail art that Marie sends from Japan!

If only I had a sewing macine...I love the "pockets', soft and nice hold for the art pieces. Very wonderful!
