A Blog Post for Judy Skolnick. The World is A Town with No one In It?

Mail Art Received second week January 2011.

Judith has contributed three  beautiful photo montages for The World is a Town project.  As many of you know, The Novgorod Codex, dating back to the 11th century resulted in an artist’s book The World is a Town which has slowly been fragmented into the world.  The writer so long ago laments his own personal position - a surprisingly postmodern global village lament. All the contributions I receive will form Volume 2  of another work with the same title.  Judith has taken a few  lines from the codex which appear as focal text in her montages:

The World is a Town in which innocent people are excluded from the church.  This phrase is why she asks – the world is a town with no one in it?

The pillars of ancient churches lie in ruins, juxtaposed with dark history.

The World is a Town in which people not deserving of this exclusion are excluded from the church.   The sometimes deathly dance of ecclesiastical red and purple.

The World is a Town in which people not deserving of this punishment are excluded from the church.

Stone monuments and human edifices watched over by dark shadows. Mingled.

In the end, fences can keep everyone excluded.

You're either in the cirlce or out.

Judith – VERY thought provoking, and very beautiful.  Thank you -  a wonderful contribution to the project.  The care and craftsmanship with which Judith treats all her work is really inspiring.  I look forward to our further mutual exchange.

Mail Art received 10th November 2010.

Judy has been posting me beautiful photographs of her trip to Arizona - one place I would DEARLY love to visit. She even found a potential location for Zeus! Judy also showed photos of "Bryce Canyon, Utah, USA - the coyote came upon this place and said these were very bad people and they were frozen into these images and
you can see their faces and who they are". You know, I could! I have always imagined the Grand Canyon to be freezing hot boiling cold (if that makes any sense). BUT! Judy sent me a photo montage that EPITOMIZED that feeling for me.

I cannot tell you how beautiful this piece is - and how carefully made. Thank you Judy - I feel privileged.

I like it!! Always looking for inspiration here. I'm still thinking about what to do for my world is a town. It's coming, I can feel it...
