A blog post for Angie Cope Whacked by an Alpha Male in the Mail

It has been a whack of a mail week from Angie Cope – FAB! I received her Alpha Man which I have seen alpharing around IUOMA, strutting his stuff. Angie kindly forwarded this from a local newspaper as I think the sculpture on Lake Michigan is fantastic.

“Spillover II,” recently unveiled with great fanfare in Atwater Park. The sculpture of a human form made of steel letters, by internationally known artist Jaume Plensa, was described as the opening salvo for a new and ambitious public art program in the Village of Shorewood.

A far larger, 26-foot version that viewers can walk into and around called“Nomad” has, fittingly, traveled around the world. Smaller versions, like the8-foot-tall version in Shorewood, are often seen in groupings of two or three, facing each other in parks or galleries.

Angie has taken numerous photos – I hopeI can show you one – IF it copies and pastes – beyond that,  my skills are NOT in the computer direction!

Then another envelope arrived with a variety of Angie experiments – FOUR!

2 asemic pieces which I find very intriguing – Red of course being my favorite color – lashes floating – make a wish – isn’t that the idea?  Her note reads “Well you know I’m always trying new styles and techniques – here is some vispo inspired by De Villo" – I always find it a very generous natured thing for artists to acknowledge where they are getting inspiration from :-)

I love the layering this one – “see through to the other side” and the peacefulness of green – the color of the earth spilling with earth stories. Words engraven on the heart of growth.

AND Snooky dog – lying on his blanket like a pop dog.  And the sewing –SO NEAT!

THANK YOU ANGIE!!! FAB!

The typographic maps combined with the stamping and stencils is such pleasing work - the color use - Angie, this is really great! If I was Alex I would be hanging around here for a bit for certain.

The all important fold - FAB idea Angie. O my word - and the wig!!

You live in a beautiful area Angie - thanks for sharing it with us in such a comprehensive and artistically beautiful way.

Bathymetric is my new favorite word. BTW, did you really EAT the smarties before you send them to Cheryl? Snooky! You candy tease!

See what happens when you live at the bottom of the world - you get confused by hill maps and valley lake maps...

Isn't that fold-out an amazing idea? I treasure my copy from Angie and Snooky. I also am very fond of Wisconsin and Lake Michigan! Love it!
