A Blog for BatGirl: The Crimson Giant Just Flew In

The final but not last chapter if the Crimson Giant Saga flew in on bat wings two days ago.

Elaine is asking some searching questions and drawing some interesting conclusions to The Crimson Giant. She used the word WHAT instead of WHO. By a process of elimination, he is not the alpha or omega, the be all and end all. ABSOLUTELY!

He is not Female or Male, Mars (war) or Venus (love). Is he perhaps Renaissance Alchemy?

He may not even be Red? He might not even be ...............giant - HE? She concludes that The Crimson Giant just IS. Yes, he is a real entity now.

Thank you for your contribution Elaine - with this, aside from binding and cover, The Crimson Giant and The Tower of Babel is O-V-E-R-!

Some interesting observations I have made - which I leave for your comments:

: Marie and I were the only ones who referenced Babel.

: The Crimson Giant was excluded by De Villo and Bifidus.

: Bifidus left consequences for symbolic disobedience

: Bifidus's puzzle is still not solved

: De Villo made the only performance piece - he was the only one to impose physically onto/into the pages - with intent.

: Jenn concentrated on the Flaneur to the exclusion of direct symbolic reference - she was also the only one to personalize the narrative.

: Erni introduced the wise bird to the narrative to aid The Crimson Giant in his search for answers - a seeking and answers outside the confines of this narrative?

: Marie (for me) brought the book to a conclusion by (a) changing the mental state of the red giant to blue and (b) by verbalizing the difficulties of communication in spite of language. She also referenced the "unwritten" codes - those less easy to access.

I am binding, collating and covering my copy. Thank you - ALL of you - it is in the final throes of being a FANTASTIC work.

I'm glad you received it. All of the copies look a little shopworn in the scans Ive seen here on IUOMA. I was hoping those ugly Scotch mailers would prevent that. I just wish I had gotten copies of the other chapters besides Cheryl's and Bifidus's. :( I'm glad you've posted them here though. I appreciate your having been so patient with me!

LOL at radish crimson giant! :-))

That's a nice way to summarize it Cheryl. Yes, in the end, the Crimson Giant IS.

Excellent Erni. A new permutation for TCG - adaptation to a performance score. Very Rad.

aha,,,the Crimson Giant has "symbols for the unknowable? Sounds very haptic to me :-)

But the "Moby Dick" of mail art has to be the NOVEL here at IUOMA....it has broken the records with comments and time lapsed between pages (not "chapters"!) ...and most of it is still "unknowable"! But, then in lies the beauty of mail art.

After reading Cheryl's observations about the chapters, I'm convinced TCG is the "Moby Dick" of mail-art - a monument to fractured sign systems and narrative disruption on a scale so grand, you cannot help but look at it with awe, astonishment, and admiration. Bifidus and I failed to even mention the giant in our chapters? All I remember is poking holes in paper while simultaneously stomping on other pages with my feet. The giant roughly corresonds to Ahab's White Whale, I think. And for all the discussion that whale has generated, I defy anybody to explain to me exactly what it represents. Are there symbols for the unknowable? Perhaps. I give Batgirl a great deal of credit for making it to the finish line.
