Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I have been a mail artist for more than 20 years. I was a nurse and had a career ending injury in 2021. I ended up retiring and now I am working on doing all those projects that were put off until someday. I make mail art using rubber stamps–vintage– not cute. Ken Brown is my all-time favorite artist, and his work is always inspiring to me. I like to make Far Side-like cartoons with rubber stamps and experiment with different ways to make art with stamps–be it collage, zines, postoids, fake ads, etc. Some of my art is detailed and colored and some is just black and white. I handstamp most of my envelopes on some sort of theme or scene. I love Vintage images and use bits and pieces from several sources to make them into new postcards, leaning heavily toward humor. My husband and I make non-traditional model train layouts–for 2021 we made “Christmas Eve at Area 51”. I make other miniature scenes and make postcards out of them. I love anything space related, fantasy, science fiction, aliens, dinosaurs, Bigfoot (and cryptozoology), vintage science fiction, pets, coffee, rubber stamps (and have doubles to trade or gift), kitsch art, but I appreciate all sorts of mail and will answer and try to find something you might like in return—so let me know what you like. I like to read and at any given time I am usually reading at least one art book, a book of toons (Tom Gauld is a new favorite), something to make me think (quotes, philosophy, spiritual) and some type of fiction (often science fiction short stories) at the same time. I love word puzzles and word games and make some art related to those–be it puns, rebus. Tom Swifties, palindromes, etc. I will participate in add and pass if that is your thing or do a back-and-forth collage type thing. I don’t usually draw, but I do carve rubber stamps if that interests you. Really, I just love to see what people are working on, whatever it is. If you aren’t an artist, what else are you doing to make life interesting? We hope to get back to traveling in the not too distant future, but right now we are still hunkered in. I think mail exchanges should be fun and a reprieve from all the madness the world has been plunged into. I work to stay positive and inspired and try to help others do the same.

Hi Melissa--the aliens continue to amaze--beaming up reindeer and elves. Your cards are always so imaginative and I look forward to an alien celebration each year!

Thank you!

My artwork to do list is celestially long.  A bit of it is on it´s way to Jackson, TN today. Believe it or not, it answers an artwork of yours posted 10/09/13.
