45th BIRTHDAY OF MEVU:

 

The Waikoa Island Post Office will issue a new series of stamps to celebrate the 45th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Mevu, the Antarctic country that has administered Waikoa Island since 1972, announced the Governor, Dr Sverre Hanssen, today.

 

The four stamps feature photos of penguins on the ice.  Designs are:

 

       17 tanos …    Penguins and explorer Roald Amundsen (1872 – 1928).

 

       35 tanos …    Penguins and Lemmath Babi, Mevu founder.

 

       50 tanos …    Penguin and explorer Roald Amundsen (1872 – 1928).

 

       1.85 reis …   Penguins and Lemmath Babi, Mevu founder.

 

Each stamp also shows the flag of Mevu.

 

Date of issue is 15th September 2015.  The stamps have been printed in full colour and perforated 12 gauge, by Chan Hui Shudian Printing SA, Minaue.
