Marie, the Spain frame is a disconnect, has nothing to do with the rest of the narrative. I had an empty space & needed to fill it.

Hm.... apparently the "mysterious European" is a mystery. Who does it look like? It looks to me like someone we all know - that's why I worked the character into the story.
