Right, that's the Dream Machine. It was supposed to create visual hallucinations. It also had the potential to cause seizures in some people so it was never manufactured. You couldn't make this stuff up.
I have a dream machine - yes :-) - was going to lend it to you, but doesn't look like you need it :-) XX
It is the first and last page of my Asemics 16 #5 chapter "Homage to Brion Gysin." It is on its way to you with a MinXus SA stamp. Brion gazes into his invention the Dream Machine - you must have one to create your Dream Books.
Is this the FAB work we've got to look forward to? Or just a teaser? Looking great DW - have been reading a lot about Gysin since you sent me that way - thanks for the reminder - with newer, louder voices clamoring for attention one does forget beginnings :-) X
Thanks for the comment, Marie. I'll fill in for Dw, as he's busy stuffing cereal boxes in envelopes.
Folks like Dw and I have always known about Brion Gysin, although I never laid eyes on him. He mostly stayed in Europe. Digging more into the roots of asemic writing and concrete poetry, I'm more aware of his contributions. You saw the bit about the Arabic and Japanese calligraphy.
Gysin was a big collaborator with William Burroughs. You can see that whenever Burroughs is mentioned around here, you get responses. Not so for Gysin, although John Bennett remarked about it. With the whole Asemic Syntax thing, Gysin came up primarily because of all the grid stuff. Gysin claimed he was expelled from Surrealism by Breton and that a lot of his cut-up and asemic ideas came from "Surrealist parlor tricks." So thanks for acknowledging another fallen soldier.
