Unfortunately, I didn't start visiting Montauk regularly until the early "aughts" after Peter Beard had sadly passed. There is a wonderful movie (filmed by the Maysles brothers) that preceded Grey Gardens called "That Summer" that prominently features Mr Beard--along with Lee Radziwill + of course the Beales--spending time in Montauk and East Hampton. Andy Warhol and his crowd make an appearance as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Even when it was filmed--back in the '70s--Peter Beard noted that the area was changing + not for the better. The wealthy were taking over the area he mentioned. Well East Hampton has always been upper crusty. In the event I haven't been out there for several years. What was once a sleepy fishing town has become a hipster heaven (or rather hell)!

It's a headband hand of silk flowers-made by a woman who sells her designs out of her car over on Prince Street off Broadway (she does have a selection of her wares on a large table right by the vehicle. She's got mirrors to lend to shoppers while they check out their "look".
