Dame Mim? Hmmm. I like it.
"There is nothing like a Dame..."
Except a Mim, of course
Thanks, Nancy. And yes, my work sold, Val, and I'm going to buy a Title with my million dollars!
I like these very much, Mim. And used to title absolutely everything...until mail art. Now there are too many, flying out of here too fast. I am in awe of Guido.
Did your work sell, Mim? Was the frantic bidding affected in any way at all by whether your works had -- how can I best put this -- 'proper' titles? What are you going to do with the million of dollars you now have?
Ah, yes, Val. Hans Arp did that, too. I like that. I think I did that when I used the maths terms from my neighbors maths textbook chapters as titles for some mail art. Totally up to the viewer to figure out what that all meant. Meanwhile, we went to an art auction at a gallery tonight, only because I had a ticket because my work was up for auction. All but one piece had a title, Interesting.
There is also the Guido V pproach, Mim, which seems to be 'Give the dang piece a title that may or may not have anything to do with the work in question.'
Val
Sorry it sounded harsh and strict, KDJ. Actually, I'm all for anyone doing whatever they want to do. It's their art!
This piece is entitled "silence for some time after." Chuck always says that he doesn't do titles cause he doesn't want people to be influence by his title, but rather come up with their own ideas. I used to create really long titles for my prints, back in the day, which I thought was really clever. For me, sans titre, is sort of a lazy thing or an unwillingness to commit. ha ha ha I'm with you, label the dang pieces!
I've figured it out: they need titles not numbers, and then all will be clear.
(When I have my own art gallery and/or museum I will BAN any and all works that are untitled/sans titre, on the grounds that if the artist can't be bothered to tell us what the piece is supposed to be about in any way at all how can the viewer be expected to work it out?)
