Our Motoring Correspondent writes: "Once Messrs Rolls and Royce had given up on the idea of replacing the Flying Lady with a live puffin, they tried to build a special perch for the puffin on the roof of the car. They had some success with the Silver Spur Roller -- and the puffin managed to stay on its perch for all of 4 seconds (and that was when the car was stationary) -- but their innovative technological approach didn't work with their prototype convertable model. The initial problem was where to put the perch when the roof was down. Once they'd partially solved that, they realised that their Very Special Puffin had escaped. It was last sighted in Darlington, Co Durham."
