Explanation, Suus? It's easy. They go to Amsterdam ZooAlcoholics'  Annonymous * sessions to dry out. When they are slightly less pink, they are released back into nature, and they head straight for the Flamingo Bar.

There's no flamingo-bar in the Amsterdam Zoo and they are still pink. Explain please!

@Stripygoose What a great piece of drawing/mailart.

It is a moving site. The flamingos gather together about 18.00 and move as one towards the shore. They wait patiently at the edge of the lagoon until they hear a door open and the opening bars of Manfred Mann's 'Pretty Flamingo. And then, when they hear what, for them, is the magic cry -- "OK, you lot! We're open. You can come in now!" -- they rush as one to the Bar for their first drinks of the day.

An ornithologist writes: "This goes a long way to explaining how flamingos* acquire their very special colouring -- the male flamingos drink Pink Lady cocktails, and the female flamingoes** drink pink gins."

* 'flamingo' (n) male cocktail-sodden big pink bird

** 'flamingoe' (n) female gin-sodden slightly smaller pink bird
