Good question Val. I haven't heard anything more on the radio about it so I have emailed - if I don't get a reply I might just send them some more postcards to see if I can get a response and an up-date :>)

What was the result of this 2nd vs 1st class 'mail-off'? I'm curious. Val

You should be playing cricket, Suus, not tennis!

Buckles would be better off making beer. His company has failed to deliver the security giards needed for the London Olympics next week, and the Government has had to bring in thousands of military people.

It's supposed to be about sport, but now weems to be about war.

Who is mr Buckles? Sounds like a Dutch alcohol free beer that became a mega fiasco. I'm going to tennis ;))

Bonjour! Nope, it's not animosity, it's just that the hype and everything has really put me off the run up to the Olympics. I care a lot about sport, and it's the only thing I watch on the TV. And I will watch bits of the Olympics -- topless Beach volleyball, synchronised nude tomato sauce wresting, etc. Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to say that! The Torch Relay leaves me cold, as I don't care if 59 year old Fred Buckles has run a leg from A to B. Oh sorry, again, I got confused: Buckles is responsible for the G4S fiasco. (Responsible?)

The 2-speed post thing is interesting, and I look forward to seeing the results. As someone who follows has followed the history and performance of the Post Office since stamps were introduced in 1840, I find this an interesting project...and there should be an overseas dimension.

If it turns out that the Queen's mail does not get through on time, the Post office could always turn to Mr Buckles, or Lord Coe, or Lord Patten...or even Chris Hume, who, if he's not looking for a new job very soon, should be looking.

Keep on going birdies, and foxies, and ducks and Stripeygeese!

Oh Val do I detect a bit of animosity towards the 2012 Olympics in London? But hang on, the race I am talking about here is between a 1st-class and a 2nd-clas stamp. It's part of a BBC Radio 4 postal experiment that I thought I would send some mailart to. More info on My Page and also here:

Here’s a UK postal experiment that I’m going to send two mailart birdies to (139 and tomorrow's 140) ... anyone else want to join in?
You and Yours, BBC Radio 4 would like your help comparing the delivery times of first and second class post. --> http://bbc.in/MsGHrB

We’d like you to send two letters or postcards, one with a first class stamp and one with a second class stamp, to:

You and Yours, Dock House, Salford, M50 2BH.

Please include your name and the date of posting. Two postcards or envelopes will do.

Taking part should cost £1.10 (60p for a first class stamp, 50p for a second class stamp). You’ll be helping us with a UK-wide experiment, and we’ll feature the results in a programme soon.

Didn't Lord Coe sell you tickets at a greatly inflated price for the Stadium so that you could go and watch the race yourself?

Comment by stripygoose on July 19, 2012 at 11:09pm
I wonder if I will ever hear the outcome of the race...

Not really -- it's just that under the non-competitive climate fostered by New Labour you didn't win.
