Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
It is such a free open and spiritually democratic way of doing art - making & sharing in one flow. The sharing-showing of my work is of a piece with its making.

I got fired up by Ray Johnson some years ago, reading ' Ray Johnson correspondences by organiser Donna de Salvo.. I return to it again & again.

Also 'Mailed Art in Uppsala Choosing Your Partner / Valj din Partner' , editor Peter R Meyer. In fact it was re-reading this catalogue today that led me to Google Klaus Groh and then found this website !

Interesting about FRIOUR is the people that reacted and who developed themselves a project:

a Spanish woman living in Thailand (war and peace mythologies)

a woman from Uganda (Pain and hope)

a woman from Japan (sun mythologies)

a man from Pakistan (peace songs)

None were mail artists but peace activists!

hello Laurence, you are doing good! I got your message. If you look on your "Page" on the top right, it should say:

    Inbox, Alerts, Friends, Settings.

Hit the "Inbox" and up should come all the "messages" that are sent to you that are NOT these public "comments". There should be my message, I think. Good luck! :-)

Laurence, as I see here in the "add comment" box, there is to the upper left line a thing that says "LINK", no need to use it unles one dayto add a link. Next to that is a little"picture" and if you put your pointer on it , it says "image"...that is what you want to hit and then it will ask you for a file (photo) that you want to upload, etc.

Back at this comment window, you then have a "movie" or "film" strip, that is for video, no need just now, but next to that is a "T" that is for text, and it lets you write a commentary with your image.....

This is a new commet-window, and at times it jumps for me, I hope you have good luck with it!

It's snowing and or sleeting right now in NC and I doubt anything will get through for a while. We can deal with hurricanes but two inches of snow and the whole state closes for three days. Working on some new stuff today (it's a snow day) that I'll try to send out tomorrow.

  • Piccadilly Post

I received your wonderful mail art card today!  Thank you!  I posted a photo--please let me know if I need to rotate it!

  • Mim Golub Scalin

Thanks for the comment. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to respond to this mail art call. The story telling part finally clicked for me, to tell a story that had to be created by the viewer. Evocative, I hope so. Why don't you send a piece of Mail Art to that call?

  • Kim JungYoun

    Hi, Laurence!

Got your card today, looks great. Gonna work on a few things over the last couple of days of my semester break and send out soon.

  • KOZY

    Dear Laurence,

No deadline. Feel free to create your art.

    Best wishes for 2011.

    Kemal.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Laurence, when you hit the little picture to add an image (photo) for your blog or message, then you add the image you want, wait and go down to just before "ADD" and there is a box that has "pixels" next to it. In the box it may say "750" or "600", depending how LARGE the resolution of your picture is. You can delete that number and then write in "400" and it will be a "smaller" picture. Send it, and you will then have more space to add two or three pictures to the blog.

    Hope this helps!

Hey Laurence - your piece arrived and is now on my REAL wall! Great to get some mail from the UK every now and again!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Glad to be of help Laurence. You are doing some great blogs and nice photos! I will wait hopefully for your mail art to arrive...maybe Monday? In Greece we have been having holidays and strikes and thus many days without postal services. Maybe by Monday things will be normal.

...And you may call me whatever you like ;-)

Katherine, (Like the Future Princess and Queen!)

Catherine (my baptized name is spelled this way)

Katerina, Katrina, Kate, Kat, Cathy, Cat....

but pleazzzzzz, do NOT call me Katie :-0

    all the best, dear friend,

    Katerina

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Thank you, Laurence,

It is sticky and rubbery-gooey, and very HAPTIC! I posted your mail art at the Haptic Poetry group, too...because it is: Haptic Poetry! Why 3096? A great "365" mail art piece! 'Love the colors and the "feel" of all the textures. And you are writing my name in GREEK! Thank you! xx

Good Morning from Utah, USA! The art you see on here is not sewing. I make quilts and blankets and have a lot of scrap fabric, I recently started creating pictures with fabric, glue and paper. If you would like to see more of what I sew, go to Face Book and send a friend request to Fleece Frenzee, I accept all friend requests on there and you will be able to see all our products, prices and measurments. I will get on your card today and try to get it in the mail on Monday.
