BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

Some really wonderful Banana mail for breakfast brightened up my gloomy sunday! Thank you, Finnbadger, Patrizia, Stripygoose and Katerina!

  • stripygoose

Thanks for posting Carina - by the way, on the toothbrush birdie please do release him from those yellow elastic bands!

  • stripygoose

    Just a hint!

  • Carina

Alright - Oh, now I see the elastic bands are shaped as bananas! :)

  • stripygoose

Thanks to TICTAC and Angie for their banana mail that arrived this week. I'll have a full report once the remainder show up. Also thanks to Scott for his bonus banana postcard.

  • Heleen de Vaan

Great to see all banana mail art!

Although I didn't join today's banana day call officially I was surprised by wonderful banana mailmart, too. Dean's winter landscape Banana I posted here already previously. And this great envelope was created by one of my biggest artistamp heroes:

    Thank you very much, Ptrzia!

  • Heleen de Vaan

One of the Banana stamps traveled by train today:

  • FinnBadger

    Wow, huge mail day today.

My banana haul just got a lot bigger with mail in from Dean, Carina and stripygoose.

Here's what the pile looks like with TIcTac, Angie and Scott's:

Kat, your banana is still on the way it seems, however your tiny valentine arrived in today's big celebration (and your Leap Day mail arrived last week already). I am amazed you were allowed to mail that little envelope, I think it would be too small for USPS to send, so I am glad they delivered.

    Thanks, everyone!

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

Dean, your fab card just arrived! thank you!!

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

forgot to mention these...so cool Stripygoose!

  • Carina

Good to see that my package arrived, Finnbadger! Took awhile, althought I thought I was on time...

  • Carina

"Hello Banana" arrived yesterday, from Dean! (blogged it too)

  • Bumblebee Cee

Spotted this sign at the finish line of a 10K - naturally I thought of Anna Banana :)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Angie's arrived just in time for February 23 International Banana Bread Day.Tell me this isn't the current price of bananas in American.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Banana Day, Feb.21,

    Banana Bread Day, Feb.23

    Anna Banana's Birthday, Feb.24!

So we are still celebrating! Yay!

(Came in today's mail...nice to sweet you, too, InSeine!)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Ok. that's ±30cents a POUND of bananas in the USA,

so ±80 euro cents a KILO is not all that high, right?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Yes, indeedy, it is a BANANA birthday card from Heleen:

    (Monkey New Year, too!)

  • Heleen de Vaan

    Glad it finally arrived. MomKat!

All credits of this drawing to Dutch illustrator Leendert Jan Vis - one of my most favourite Dutch illustrators (*oh how I wish I could draw like he does!*).

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

Angie, thank you! ...your fab banana bunch has arrived, love also the fruity stamps!!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Thanks, Angie, your banana arrived today!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

And in Paris it seems to be big business.  2-4 euros a kilo

  • Linda French

    Fashion 1975. Banana anyone?

Only in the '70s could you look like a human banana and still be runway-ready.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Banana Day falls on the 20th of April this year, and yes this time I found something official to back me up.

    http://iws.wcupa.edu/bananaday/whatisbananaday.html

Who is in for receiving Banana Mail Art on or close to 20 April?

  • FinnBadger

I had vowed to only banana twice a year, but you've twisted my arm, Dean. I'm in!

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

  • Intransferível

    I'm innnnnn(transferivel)!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

So we are seven so far and one twisted banana fan.  Likely to be a few more.

    Welcome Intransferivel !

  • FinnBadger

Tonipoet also replied to the email invite saying she's in.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    of course, I'm in!

    (what a pickle I'm in!)

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

    :-) great you're in!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Yes, I got a message from Toni Hanner -- tonipoet, so now we are ten.  And that's a bunch of bananas.

Kats, actually I looked today, and the normal bananas were 1.99 euros a kilo.  Maybe I always buy the funny ones which are 3.29 a kilo. Their jokes are better, so it's worth it.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

From Ecuador we are getting 1.29 per kilo (2.2 lb)

...but no funny jokes or minions :-(

Banana Mail Art (a few) going in the post today in the hope

that one arrives in Brazil for Intransferival by April 20!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Oh thanks for the heads up Kats.  It's true mail for Brazil could take sometime.  I think I'll send that one out tomorrow as well.

Seven down and two more to go for me.  I think I'll eat another banana for inspiration.

  • Heleen de Vaan

Sorry for not creating and sending 10 pieces of banana mail art for all of you. Instead I created an envelope for the Warhol museum in Medzilaborce, SLovakia. Pure coincidentally a banana on it. Or not coincidental: the first (and only) work of art which comes into my mind when I think of Warhol is the album cover of the Velvet Underground (including Mo Tucker) and Nico (f).
(It will be a challenge for me to find something to draw to add to the inside of this envelope...)

  • Intransferível

oh oh ohhh... :)  my sending from Brazil should arrive after the 20th, but we have many bananas here, so I promise deliciously tropical pieces. wait!

  • stripygoose

    ...on their merry banana way!

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

my bananas left yesterday...hope they're not too ripe when some of you get them! :-)
