I only paint/collage/decorate/etc vinyl if I have no intention of ever playing it. My 'best' vinyl -- some of which I've had for 50+ years -- stays untouched.

Sometimes the sleeve covers are much more interesting than the vinyl, which is oh so very often terrible;.
