The Peace Crane Project for Japan

THE ONE THOUSAND PEACE CRANE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED AS OF 1/6/12. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE PEACE CRANES.)

Thank you to everyone who made peace cranes!

There's a story told in Japan that if you make a thousand origami Peace Cranes, you or someone you love will be healed. This group is for those who wish to make an origami Peace Crane which will then be sent to the Hiroshima Peace Museum.

It took about one year, from March 11, 2011 until March 11, 2012,

for this group, under the creator, like television snow, to make

1,000 Peace Cranes for Japan!

There they flew!

The following email came this evening regarding the arrival and dedication of the boxful of peace cranes that everyone made. Here is the email that came along with the picture of the box of peace cranes at the Children's Peace Memorial Garden.

Dear LT Snow

I trust this letter finds you in good health.

I was very pleased to receive the paper cranes
you folded in your sincere desire for peace.

We dedicated your cranes to the Children's Peace Monument,
the statue that was built in memory of Sadako Sasaki,
a junior high school girl who died in 1955 of the "A-bomb" disease.

I believe the spirit of Sadako is pleased by your great kindness.

Your prayers for world peace will be passed on to the many people
who will visit the monument.

Let's work together for a world of peace free from nuclear weapons
so Sadako's tragedy will never be repeated.

Very truly yours,

Steven Leeper
Chairperson, Board of Directors

Although the Thousand Peace Cranes have been sent to Japan, artists can still post drawings, poems, photos, collages, etc. here on the Group page. Feel free to continue to be inspired!
