Mail Art Archives

Some Mail-Artists have been doing Mail-Art for a longer time and have saved all they get in, documented what they sent out, collected books, magazines and documentations, and before they knew it were the owner of a Mail Art Archive. Tell us more...

Do you have a mail-art archive?

If you have a mail-art archive.please tell a bit about what is in it, how you store it, from which dates the materials are, and if possible show a photo.Continue

Dear Chuck Welch,

thanks for this information. I have foun my event on the position number 335 on box 3.

"335

Name: Raphael Nadolny

Address: ul. Krancowa 2, Mosina 62050, Poland

Date: September 14, 1992

Items: NC92 statement, "It's not really how you say what you have to say. If you write, if you dance, if you paint, if you play music, it's all the same thing. It's not merely what you show. In Networking, it reflects the ARTIST in his full capacity of sensing, of feeling, of thinking, of ordering, of sensing things which only he senses. And he can show other Networkers it as he wants."

The congress was so decentralized that we were often unaware of what was happening in the world in Poland.

But there is also - apart from the statistical item - content related to specific events during individual sessions of Congress.

Dear Tam and Raphael,
I would love to have readers  of I.U.O.M.A. know that there are 450 NC92 documents that were received and recorded by me during the Congress Year in 1992. The official document during NC92 was called The Networker Databank Congress. You can view it for research or reference at these University of Iowa Special Collections sites. Someone might find the info useful or even educational. There are listings too that are quite entertaining, especially those relating to the “Records of Phenomenological Spirit Experience” resulted in over fifty metanet gatherings and solo performances on five continents.

In my archives there is a folder of materials with an event that I organized in 1992 as part of the Decentralized World Wide Networker Congress.

The session was held on October 24-25, 1992 under the slogan: "Art against commerce - everybody can bye an artist."

A few years later, when the decentralized world wide networker congress (1992) took place, I made a work in which I used the envelope in which the work made by Andrzej Dudek Durer was sent (he was already implementing the idea of recycling, once again using envelopes sent from other people - in my case it was a envelope with stamps from Bulgaria).

This workis  referred to the eschatology and artistic strategy chosen by Andrzej Dudek Durer, his connections with the work of Albrecht Durer, which had been created several centuries earlier. AD 1993.

It was in end of 1988. I went to the Post Office to send a letter to my friend and saw there a mail art exhibition. I don't remember the title now. It was very interesting for me. I saw information it was organized by "Mój Świat" - a teenage magazine. Then I bought this magazine and found a special part about mail art in it. Finally I started to send mail in this Network. I send the first letter - as Mail Art - to Andrzej Dudek Durer (https://mailartists.wordpress.com/2010/09/04/andrzej-dudek-durer/). In response, I got his beautiful artistic work (date.08.03.1989) and 6 addresses to other mail artists in Poland. It was the first art work I received via mail.

I returned to Mail Art after about 25 years of absence. During this time I was involved in various artistic activities, but rather alone, without cooperation with others. But I was missing something. In the meantime, the world was overwhelmed by globalization, access to social media, but it was not something for me. That is why I took out from the attic of my house, cardboard boxes with correspondence from the old days, which already had the value of an archive. Again, letters with works of art began arriving by mail. At the same time, these boxes, brought from the attic, reveal their interesting contents. At this point, I intend to share a part of it with others.
