Literature and Art

For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it.  Using literature as inspiration for our art.  Also for people interested in writing letters about literature.  This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

LITERATURE and ART

TOP:

Handmade Ezra Pound (Ezruckus Poundamonium) paper doll for a series of skits in which E.P is the main star. --Theresa Williams

MIDDLE:

Automatic writing by Nancy Bell Scott.

BOTTOM:

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke.  On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes.  It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky."  Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia.  With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog:  The Letter Project.   I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity.  All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

maurice went on a rampage about "you can't undermine our heroes."

chris called walt whitman gay

Um, I don't remember what Walt had to do with that episode.

i'll always associate walt with the Northern Exposure episode where maurice punches chris because he called him gay.

Below are the images of Theresa's very beautiful Walt Whitman card, which arrived in yesterday's mail.  These are also on my blog with a bit of commentary.  That post can be found here.

Altogether a touching, artistic, and challenging piece, and I love it.

Got it.  I would never assume you're being artistically literal anyway, SH, but do like knowing more about how you work, which is unique to say the least.  And I like seeing the book covers!

nancy, if you were meaning the book covers i post along with my zombiesemics - i don't really draw inspiration from those (with the obvious exception of American Gods).

it takes about two days to work on one of the big collages, and during that time i listen nonstop to an audiobook - a different audiobook each time. each one takes me on a whole new trip of thinking, which makes the things i search for when creating the collage quite varied; as each author has vastly different concepts and nuances in language; i think that gets reflected to some extent in the collages.

but as for the actual book covers that i post along side with the collages, they are usually just to show what book i was listening to.

but i do like to see cool book covers, like the swimming person with the hair in their face! ;-D

definitely inspiring, and i may just use that picture in my cuirrent work!!!

I've noticed that, but those who worry more about what's appropriate tend to be more, well, worrisome.

Haha, yah, I am a BIG conversation hog in the Lit and Art group today.  Help.

oh, i just google all kinds of stuff all day long for my collages -

i paste interesting stuff where it's appropriate.

or where inappropriate.

it doesn't really make a difference to me! ;-D
