For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it. Using literature as inspiration for our art. Also for people interested in writing letters about literature. This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke. On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes. It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky." Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia. With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog: The Letter Project. I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity. All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

AFTER ANN LET US REBEL REBEL
The deadline for The book of ANN (Friour project 12) is 31 December 2011.
The past year was great on a MAIL ART and KITTY level, so THANX to all who contributed and exchanged art and ideas.
I now present the successor for 2012 and already email my season greetings to YOU ALL.
FRIOUR project 13 is on rebellion, contestation, protest in all its meanings: artistic, political, social, cultural, historical and present ones.
I dedicate this 2012 project to all mail artists who have told me they like my art but PLEASE Guido stay away from politics! They are forgetting that all the great art movements of the modernist past (Dada, Surrealism, Cobra, Situationism) were involved in attempts to change society. So REBEL REBEL aka the essence of art expressions by artists living in society, rooted in all the social and cultural contradictions of the world. Because after all it is not only Wall street we need to occupy because the public domain is our space. Reclaim the streets indeed!!
POWER TO THE PEOPLE, TO THE ANIMALS, TO THE TREES AND TO THE ASTONISHING STONES OF OUR UNIVERSE (it is OUR universe: not belonging to banks, corporations, dictators, the state, the police or other self proclaimed authorities: we are the world, the world are we, so REBEL REBEL till you drop, don’t shop, burn all billboards down, spit on your local flag and embrace humanity as a whole, for XXX sake, REBEL REBEL till the end of time, REBEL against death and REBEL against the way we live or against those who impose us how to live.
Take responsibilty of your own life and destinity, this means also taking responsibility of our planet and existence in our own hands. Don’t depend of power, create your own power, or refute power altogether!

LAMUSAR (art inspired by music and literature)
Photo of Jacques Izoard with handwritten poem, diffused after his death.
Some benches were erected to his memory in his hometown with poems on the benches. The death-mask I keep to myself. I remember well that Basso and Stone commented on this, that I lived in a cultural country because they honored the poets. Well to put this into perspective: today in Liege (town of Izoard and the benches) a lunatic started firing on the main square and killed and injured X people. Good golly Miss Molly, we Belgians are becoming Americans (sic, suck, vomity oops)
Thanks Theresa, on the level of death we live in a sick culture, we simply cannot deal with it while other cultures seem to play with this in a much lighter and open way. I have always asked myself this silly question: WHY ???
I have some answers but this could be really offensive to people who do not question the poverty of the «West» (what kind of monster is that anyway?)
I have to stop because otherwise the laundry will become VERY red (Lol)
Small painted envelope around a poetry fragment by Jacques IZOARD who was one of my close friends. He died in 2008. I have a plaster cast of his death-mask in my home. His best friend (Robert Varlez) did a mail art project in his memory.

Simon Vinkenoog (July 18, 1928 – July 12, 2009) was a Dutch poet and writer. He was the editor of the anthology Atonaal (Atonal), which launched the Dutch "Fifties Movement". A real rebellion against the literary establishment of the time.
In 2004 he was chosen as Dichter des Vaderlands, or "Poet Laureate", for the Netherlands. On July 11, 2009 Vinkenoog was admitted to an Amsterdam hospital after suffering a seizure. He died the following day.[1][2]
Vinkenoog was a Dutch beatnik and performance poet who has defended all his life the use of soft drugs and paddos (Mushrooms): so a kind of Kerouac meets Ginsburg meets Timothy Leary meets Huxley meets Henri Michaux kind of guy.
His complete poetry is more than 1200 pages of reading material. Some of his poems have been translated into English by Cornelis Vleeskens (a Dutch poet and visual poetry artist who emigrated to Australia and is also part of the mail art network)
Elaine is an American but she made the choice to live in Canada. I can understand this completely but if all interesting Americians emigrate to Canada we would only have the nutters left of the Tbaggers, so >>>
Here is her address because not on IUOMA. She is an excellent correspondent!
