There are a number of websites that offer free downloads of vintage clip art, as well as copyright free public domain images. The images on these sites can be used in various ways, but it is always prudent to review each site's terms.

Below is a list of resources for fantastic vintage and public domain images, in no particular order:

The Public Domain Review - an online journal and not-for-profit project, with a focus "on works which have fallen into the public domain, the vast commons of out-of-copyright material that everyone is free to enjoy, share, and build upon without restriction."
Old Book Illustrations - a site that offers a wide range of public domain, royalty-free images scanned from old books.
Grandma's Graphics - a treasury of clip art sourced from vintage children's books.
The Old Design Shop - vintage image treasury from a book and ephemera collector.
The Graphics Fairy - over 5,000 free vintage images.
Free Pretty Things For You - free graphics and vintage clip art.
Reusable Art - a collection of copyright free images.
Publicdomainvectors.org - many images, including over 3400 free vintage clipart images.
Clipartqueen - a number of images, including antique pictures, medieval, victorian, art nouveau, classic cars and other vintage clipart.
British Library Free Vintage Images - a collection of over a million copyright free images on FLICKR.
