July 20, 2016 - Jay Block is a collage master of the contemporary Eternal Network. But I see his language-centered work, such as this piece recently received, as visual poetry. Elements of the cut-up technique, defamiliarization and asemics are present, among other things. These are literary elements. Aspects of visual art are present as well. Despite the fragmented, anti-art feel, the piece actually has a high degree of unity.

Some might consider this postcard-size composition Trashpo; it certainly “quotes” Trashpo tropes. But the ultimately strict formalist structure removes it from being authentic Trashpo. Regardless of whether it is or is not Trashpo, this is a wonderful piece. I am thrilled to have it.
